Ben und der gelbe Regenschirm

Ben ist sechs Jahre alt. Heute hat er Geburtstag. Oma ist da. Sie hat ein Geschenk für Ben. Das Geschenk ist lang und dünn. Was ist das?

Ben is six years old. Today is his birthday. Grandma is here. She has a present for Ben. The present is long and thin. What is it?

Ben macht das Papier auf. Es ist ein Regenschirm! Der Regenschirm ist gelb, mit grünen Fröschen.

Ben opens the paper. It’s an umbrella! The umbrella is yellow, with green frogs.

Ben öffnet den Schirm. Er ist groß und rund, wie eine gelbe Sonne. „Danke, Oma! Ich gehe sofort nach draußen!“

Ben opens the umbrella. It is big and round, like a yellow sun. “Thank you, Grandma! I’m going outside right now!”

Aber draußen scheint die Sonne. Der Himmel ist blau. Kein Regen. Keine Wolke. Nichts.

But outside the sun is shining. The sky is blue. No rain. Not one cloud. Nothing.

„Morgen regnet es bestimmt“, sagt Mama.

“It’s sure to rain tomorrow,” says Mum.

Aber am Montag scheint die Sonne. Am Dienstag scheint die Sonne. Am Mittwoch scheint die Sonne auch. Alle Leute sind froh. Nur Ben ist nicht froh.

But on Monday the sun shines. On Tuesday the sun shines. On Wednesday the sun shines too. Everybody is happy. Only Ben is not happy.

Jeden Morgen sieht Ben aus dem Fenster. „Wo ist der Regen?“ Jeden Morgen nimmt er den Regenschirm mit in die Schule.

Every morning Ben looks out of the window. “Where is the rain?” Every morning he takes the umbrella with him to school.

Die anderen Kinder lachen. „Ben, die Sonne scheint!“ „Ich weiß“, sagt Ben. „Aber der Regen kommt. Bestimmt.“

The other children laugh. “Ben, the sun is shining!” “I know,” says Ben. “But the rain is coming. I’m sure.”

Am Donnerstag sieht Ben das Wetter im Fernsehen. Der Mann im Fernsehen lacht. „Morgen: Sonne, Sonne, Sonne!“ Ben macht den Fernseher aus.

On Thursday Ben watches the weather on TV. The man on TV is smiling. “Tomorrow: sun, sun, sun!” Ben turns off the TV.
