브루노와 목욕

이 개는 브루노다. 브루노는 크고 갈색이다. 그리고 귀가 길다. 브루노는 클라인 씨 가족과 같이 산다.

This is Bruno. Bruno is a dog. He is big and brown, and he has long ears. Bruno lives with the Klein family.

브루노는 좋아하는 게 많다. 브루노는 소시지를 좋아한다. 공도 좋아한다. 공원도 좋아한다. 그리고 진흙을 아주 좋아한다.

Bruno loves lots of things. He loves sausage. He loves balls. He loves the park. And he loves mud.

하지만 브루노는 딱 하나가 싫다. 브루노는 물이 싫다. 욕조도 싫다. 그리고 ‘목욕’. 브루노는 이 말이 제일 싫다.

But Bruno hates one thing. He hates water. He hates the bathtub. And he hates the word “bath”.

오늘은 토요일이다. 팀과 안나는 브루노와 같이 공원에 간다. 비가 조금 온다. 공원에는 진흙이 많다.

Today is Saturday. Tim and Anna go to the park with Bruno. It is raining a little. There is lots of mud in the park.

브루노가 진흙을 본다. 브루노의 눈이 커진다. 그리고 브루노가 뛴다. 진흙 속으로 풍덩 뛴다. 진흙에서 데굴데굴 구른다. 브루노는 행복하다.

Bruno sees the mud. His eyes get big. Then he jumps. He jumps into the mud. He rolls in the mud. He is happy.

“브루노, 안 돼!” 안나가 소리친다. 하지만 너무 늦다. 브루노는 이제 갈색이 아니다. 브루노는 까맣다. 까맣고 축축하다. 그리고 아주 행복하다.

“Bruno, no!” calls Anna. But it is too late. Bruno isn’t brown any more. Bruno is black. Black and wet and very happy.

팀이 웃는다. “이제 브루노는 진흙 괴물이야!”

Tim laughs. “Now Bruno is a mud monster!”

집에서 엄마가 문 앞에 서 있다. 엄마가 브루노를 본다. 아이들을 본다. 진흙을 본다. “아, 안 돼.” 엄마가 말한다. “브루노는 목욕이 필요해.”

At home Mum is waiting at the door. She sees Bruno. She sees the children. She sees the mud. “Oh no,” she says. “Bruno needs a bath.”

브루노가 그 말을 듣는다. 목욕! 브루노는 바로 도망간다. 집 안으로 달려간다. 부엌을 지나서 거실로 달려간다.

Bruno hears the word. Bath! He runs away at once. He runs into the house, through the kitchen and into the living room.

“멈춰! 브루노! 소파는 안 돼!”

“Stop! Bruno! Not on the sofa!”

너무 늦다. 브루노는 소파 위에 눕는다. 소파는 하얀색이다. 아, 아니다. 소파는 이제 하얀색이 아니다.

Too late. Bruno is lying on the sofa. The sofa is white. Or no: the sofa isn’t white any more.
