यह ब्रूनो है। ब्रूनो एक कुत्ता है। वह बड़ा और भूरा है, और उसके कान लंबे हैं। ब्रूनो क्लाइन परिवार के साथ रहता है: मम्मी, पापा, टिम और अन्ना के साथ।

This is Bruno. Bruno is a dog. He is big and brown, and he has long ears. Bruno lives with the Klein family: with Mum, Dad, Tim and Anna.

ब्रूनो को कई चीज़ें बहुत पसंद हैं। उसे गेंदें पसंद हैं। उसे कीचड़ पसंद है। उसे सफ़ेद सोफ़ा पसंद है। लेकिन उसे सबसे ज़्यादा सॉसेज पसंद हैं।

Bruno loves lots of things. He loves balls. He loves mud. He loves the white sofa. But most of all he loves sausages.

आज गुरुवार है। शनिवार को क्लाइन परिवार बगीचे में बारबेक्यू पार्टी करता है। सभी पड़ोसी आते हैं। पापा बारह सॉसेज खरीदते हैं। वह उन्हें फ्रिज में रखते हैं। “बारह सॉसेज,” वह कहते हैं। “यह सबके लिए काफ़ी हैं।”

Today is Thursday. On Saturday the Klein family is having a barbecue in the garden. All the neighbours are coming. Dad buys twelve sausages. He puts them in the fridge. “Twelve sausages,” he says. “That’s enough for everyone.”

शुक्रवार को मम्मी फ्रिज खोलती हैं। वह सॉसेज गिनती हैं। एक, दो, तीन … दस। सिर्फ़ दस! “दो सॉसेज कहाँ हैं?”

On Friday Mum opens the fridge. She counts the sausages. One, two, three … ten. Only ten! “Where are the two sausages?”

सब ब्रूनो को देखते हैं। ब्रूनो फ्रिज के सामने लेटा है। वह हर सुबह फ्रिज के सामने लेटता है। फ्रिज से बहुत अच्छी खुशबू आती है।

Everyone looks at Bruno. Bruno is lying in front of the fridge. He lies in front of the fridge every morning. The fridge smells so good.

“ब्रूनो!” मम्मी कहती हैं। “क्या यह तुम हो?” ब्रूनो अपना सिर पंजों पर रखता है। वह कुछ नहीं बोलता। कुत्ते कभी कुछ नहीं बोलते।

“Bruno!” says Mum. “Is it you?” Bruno puts his head on his paws. He says nothing. Dogs never say anything.

“गंदे कुत्ते!” मम्मी कहती हैं। “यह ठीक नहीं है!”

“Bad dog!” says Mum. “That’s not okay!”

ब्रूनो धीरे-धीरे अपने कंबल पर जाता है। वह उदास है। उसके कान बिल्कुल नीचे लटके हैं।

Bruno walks slowly to his blanket. He is sad. His ears hang right down.

अन्ना ब्रूनो को देखती है। फिर वह फ्रिज को देखती है। “मम्मी, ब्रूनो फ्रिज नहीं खोल सकता। उसके हाथ नहीं हैं।”

Anna looks at Bruno. Then she looks at the fridge. “Mum, Bruno can’t open the fridge. He has no hands.”

“हूँ,” मम्मी कहती हैं। “यह सच है। लेकिन फिर यह कौन है?”

“Hm,” says Mum. “That’s true. But who is it then?”

टिम को एक तरकीब सूझती है। “आज रात हम जागते हैं। हम रसोई में इंतज़ार करते हैं। फिर हम देखते हैं।”

Tim has an idea. “Tonight we’ll stay awake. We’ll wait in the kitchen. Then we’ll see.”
