Dom, który słucha

W marcu 2050 roku wprowadziliśmy się do nowego domu. Tom, moja córka Mia i ja. Dom stoi na skraju Fryburga, między lasem a małą rzeką.

In March 2050 we moved into the new house. Tom, my daughter Mia and I. The house stands on the edge of Freiburg, between a forest and a small river.

To nie jest normalny dom. Ma komputer, a komputer potrafi mówić. Nazywa się Otto. Otto włącza i wyłącza światło. Gotuje kawę i otwiera drzwi.

It isn’t a normal house. It has a computer, and the computer can talk. It’s called Otto. Otto turns the lights on and off. He makes coffee and opens the doors.

Pierwszego wieczoru Mia stała w kuchni i głośno zapytała: „Otto, czy jesteś robotem?”

On the first evening Mia stood in the kitchen and asked loudly, “Otto, are you a robot?”

„Nie” – odpowiedział Otto. Jego głos był spokojny i miły. „Jestem domem. Słucham i pomagam.”

“No,” Otto answered. His voice was calm and friendly. “I am the house. I listen and I help.”

Mia zaśmiała się. Tom pokręcił głową. „Dom, który słucha” – powiedział. „To trochę dziwne.”

Mia laughed. Tom shook his head. “A house that listens,” he said. “That’s a bit strange.”

Dom był bardzo tani. Dawna właścicielka, pani Winter, zmarła zimą. Mieszkała tu sama przez trzydzieści lat. Pośrednik nie opowiedział o niej dużo.

The house was very cheap. The old owner, Mrs Winter, died in the winter. She lived here alone, for thirty years. The estate agent didn’t tell us much about her.
