Nazywam się Tim, mam dwadzieścia osiem lat i pracuję w domu. Tworzę strony internetowe dla małych firm. Moje mieszkanie jest na parterze, tuż obok drzwi wejściowych. Dlatego jestem w domu człowiekiem od paczek.

My name is Tim, I’m twenty-eight years old, and I work from home. I make websites for small companies. My flat is on the ground floor, right next to the front door. That’s why I’m the parcel man of the building.

Wszyscy doręczyciele paczek mnie znają. Kiedy nikogo nie ma w domu, dzwonią do mnie. Odbieram paczki dla pana Beckera z pierwszego piętra, dla dwojga studentów z drugiego piętra i dla pani Wagner z trzeciego piętra.

All the delivery drivers know me. When nobody is at home, they ring my bell. I take parcels for Mr Becker on the first floor, for the two students on the second floor and for Mrs Wagner on the third floor.

Pani Wagner ma ponad osiemdziesiąt lat i zamawia bardzo dużo: książki, herbatę, wełnę. Raz zamówiła nawet kosiarkę do trawy. Nie ma ogrodu. Nigdy o to nie pytałem.

Mrs Wagner is over eighty, and she orders a lot: books, tea, wool. Once she even ordered a lawnmower. She doesn’t have a garden. I never asked.

W pewien poniedziałek w listopadzie zadzwonił dzwonek o dziesiątej. Kurier dał mi małą, brązową paczkę. „Dla Wagner, trzecie piętro. Nie otwiera drzwi”.

One Monday in November the doorbell rang at ten o’clock. The delivery driver gave me a small brown parcel. “For Wagner, third floor. She’s not answering.”

„Nie ma problemu” – powiedziałem. Postawiłem paczkę na biurku i pracowałem dalej.

“No problem,” I said. I put the parcel on my desk and went on working.
