Ella a huit ans. Elle va dans la deuxième classe. Son professeur s’appelle Madame Sommer. Madame Sommer est gentille.
Ella is eight. She is in the second year at school. Her teacher is called Mrs Sommer. Mrs Sommer is nice.
Aujourd’hui, c’est lundi. À côté d’Ella, une place est libre. Aujourd’hui, un nouveau garçon est assis là.
Today is Monday. There is a free seat next to Ella. Today a new boy is sitting there.
« C’est Luca », dit Madame Sommer. « Luca vient d’Italie. Il habite ici maintenant. Il ne parle pas encore allemand. »
“This is Luca,” says Mrs Sommer. “Luca comes from Italy. He lives here now. He doesn’t speak any German yet.”
Luca a des cheveux noirs et une veste bleue. Il regarde la table. Il ne dit rien.
Luca has black hair and a blue jacket. He looks down at the desk. He says nothing.
Ella sourit. « Bonjour ! Je suis Ella. »
Ella smiles. “Hello! I’m Ella.”
Luca regarde Ella. Il dit quelque chose. Mais Ella ne comprend pas. C’est beau, comme une chanson. Mais c’est de l’italien.
Luca looks at Ella. He says something. But Ella doesn’t understand it. It sounds nice, like a song. But it is Italian.
Le cours commence. Madame Sommer écrit sur le tableau. Les enfants lisent. Les enfants écrivent. Luca n’écrit rien. Il regarde par la fenêtre.
The lesson begins. Mrs Sommer writes on the board. The children read. The children write. Luca writes nothing. He looks out of the window.
Ella pense : Luca est triste. Il est nouveau. Il ne connaît personne. Et il ne comprend rien. C’est difficile.
Ella thinks: Luca is sad. He is new. He doesn’t know anyone. And he doesn’t understand anything. That’s hard.
Pendant la récréation, les enfants jouent dans la cour. Luca reste seul contre le mur.
At break time the children play in the playground. Luca stands alone by the wall.
Ella a une idée. Elle prend du papier et un stylo. Elle dessine un soleil. Ensuite, elle montre le soleil. « Sonne », dit-elle.
Ella has an idea. She fetches some paper and a pencil. She draws a sun. Then she points at the sun. “Sonne,” she says.
Luca regarde le dessin. Ensuite, il sourit un peu. « Sole », dit-il.
Luca looks at the picture. Then he smiles a little. “Sole,” he says.
« Sole ! », dit Ella. « Sonne, c’est Sole ! »
“Sole!” says Ella. “Sonne is sole!”
