Ella berumur delapan tahun. Dia duduk di kelas dua. Nama gurunya adalah Ibu Sommer. Ibu Sommer ramah.

Ella is eight. She is in the second year at school. Her teacher is called Mrs Sommer. Mrs Sommer is nice.

Hari ini hari Senin. Di sebelah Ella ada satu kursi kosong. Hari ini seorang anak laki-laki baru duduk di sana.

Today is Monday. There is a free seat next to Ella. Today a new boy is sitting there.

“Ini Luca,” kata Ibu Sommer. “Luca berasal dari Italia. Dia sekarang tinggal di sini. Dia belum bisa berbahasa Jerman.”

“This is Luca,” says Mrs Sommer. “Luca comes from Italy. He lives here now. He doesn’t speak any German yet.”

Luca berambut hitam dan memakai jaket biru. Dia melihat ke meja. Dia tidak berkata apa-apa.

Luca has black hair and a blue jacket. He looks down at the desk. He says nothing.

Ella tersenyum. “Halo! Aku Ella.”

Ella smiles. “Hello! I’m Ella.”

Luca memandang Ella. Dia mengatakan sesuatu. Tetapi Ella tidak memahaminya. Kedengarannya merdu, seperti sebuah lagu. Tetapi itu bahasa Italia.

Luca looks at Ella. He says something. But Ella doesn’t understand it. It sounds nice, like a song. But it is Italian.

Pelajaran dimulai. Ibu Sommer menulis di papan tulis. Anak-anak membaca. Anak-anak menulis. Luca tidak menulis apa-apa. Dia melihat ke luar jendela.

The lesson begins. Mrs Sommer writes on the board. The children read. The children write. Luca writes nothing. He looks out of the window.

Ella berpikir: Luca sedih. Dia anak baru. Dia tidak mengenal siapa pun. Dan dia tidak mengerti apa-apa. Ini sulit.

Ella thinks: Luca is sad. He is new. He doesn’t know anyone. And he doesn’t understand anything. That’s hard.

Saat jam istirahat anak-anak bermain di halaman. Luca berdiri sendiri di dekat dinding.

At break time the children play in the playground. Luca stands alone by the wall.

Ella punya ide. Dia mengambil kertas dan pena. Dia menggambar matahari. Lalu dia menunjuk ke arah matahari. “Sonne,” katanya.

Ella has an idea. She fetches some paper and a pencil. She draws a sun. Then she points at the sun. “Sonne,” she says.

Luca melihat gambar itu. Lalu dia sedikit tersenyum. “Sole,” katanya.

Luca looks at the picture. Then he smiles a little. “Sole,” he says.

“Sole!” kata Ella. “Sonne itu sole!”

“Sole!” says Ella. “Sonne is sole!”
