Paul a six ans. Il a une dent qui bouge. La dent est devant, en haut, au milieu.

Paul is six. He has a wobbly tooth. The tooth is at the front, at the top, in the middle.

Paul bouge la dent avec la langue. La dent va vers l’avant. Paul bouge encore. La dent va vers l’arrière. Mais elle ne tombe pas.

Paul wiggles it with his tongue. The tooth moves forward. Paul wiggles it again. The tooth moves back. But it won’t come out.

À l’école, Lisa a un trou. Jonas a deux trous. Et Ali a même trois trous. Seul Paul n’a pas encore de trou.

At school Lisa has a gap. Jonas has two gaps. And Ali even has three gaps. Only Paul has no gap yet.

« La petite souris vient chez Ali », dit Lisa. « Chaque nuit. Ali est riche. »

“The tooth fairy comes to Ali,” says Lisa. “Every night. Ali is rich.”

Paul veut aussi un trou. Et il veut aussi la petite souris.

Paul wants a gap too. And he wants the tooth fairy too.

À la maison, il demande à Maman. « Maman, comment est-ce que la dent sort ? »

At home he asks Mum. “Mum, how does the tooth come out?”

« Mange une pomme », dit Maman. « Une grande pomme dure. »

“Eat an apple,” says Mum. “A big, hard apple.”

Paul mange une pomme. Il mord fort. La dent bouge. Mais elle reste dedans. Paul mange encore une pomme. Et encore une. Maintenant, Paul a mal au ventre. Mais la dent est toujours là.

Paul eats an apple. He bites hard. The tooth wobbles. But it stays in. Paul eats another apple. And another one. Now Paul has a tummy ache. But the tooth is still there.

Puis Papa rentre à la maison. « J’ai un plan », dit-il. Il prend une ficelle. « On attache la ficelle à la dent. Et on attache la ficelle à la porte. Puis je ferme la porte. Boum ! Et la dent est dehors. »

Then Dad comes home. “I have a plan,” he says. He fetches a piece of string. “We tie the string to the tooth. And we tie the string to the door. Then I shut the door. Bang! And the tooth is out.”

Paul regarde la ficelle. Il regarde la porte. Il regarde Papa. « Non, merci », dit Paul. Il court vite dans sa chambre.

Paul looks at the string. He looks at the door. He looks at Dad. “No, thank you,” says Paul. He runs quickly to his room.
