Mâine este ziua mamei. Emma și Ben au un plan. Ei fac un tort. Un tort de ciocolată! Mama iubește ciocolata.

Tomorrow is Mum’s birthday. Emma and Ben have a plan. They are going to bake a cake. A chocolate cake! Mum loves chocolate.

Tata ajută. Dar tata nu știe să facă bine prăjituri. El știe să gătească bine paste. Și el știe să comande bine pizza.

Dad helps. But Dad isn’t good at baking. He is good at cooking pasta. And he is good at ordering pizza.

Mama nu este acasă astăzi. Ea este la bunica. Asta este bine, pentru că tortul este o surpriză.

Mum isn’t here today. She is at Grandma’s. That’s good, because the cake is a surprise.

Emma citește rețeta. Ea are nouă ani și știe deja să citească bine. „Avem nevoie de făină, zahăr, ouă, unt, lapte și ciocolată.”

Emma reads the recipe. She is nine and can already read well. “We need flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk and chocolate.”

Ben are cinci ani. El nu știe încă să citească. Dar el știe să amestece bine. „Eu amestec!”, strigă el.

Ben is five. He can’t read yet. But he is good at stirring. “I’ll stir!” he shouts.

Tata aduce un bol mare. Emma aduce făina. Ben aduce ouăle. Un ou cade pe podea. Plici!

Dad fetches a big bowl. Emma fetches the flour. Ben fetches the eggs. One egg falls on the floor. Splat!

„Oh”, spune Ben. „Oul este stricat.” „Nicio problemă”, spune tata. „Mai avem zece ouă.”

“Oh,” says Ben. “The egg is broken.” “No problem,” says Dad. “We still have ten eggs.”

Emma citește mai departe. „Acum zahăr. Trei sute de grame.”

Emma reads on. “Now sugar. Three hundred grams.”

În dulap sunt două cutii. Ambele cutii sunt albe. Ambele au un capac roșu. „Tată, care cutie este zahărul?”, întreabă Ben.

There are two tins in the cupboard. Both tins are white. Both have a red lid. “Dad, which tin is the sugar?” asks Ben.

Tata vorbește la telefon acum. El nu se uită. „Aceea”, spune el.

Dad is on the phone just then. He doesn’t look. “That one,” he says.

Ben ia cutia. El pune trei sute de grame în bol. Apoi amestecă. El amestecă și amestecă. Emma pune ciocolata.

Ben takes the tin. He puts three hundred grams into the bowl. Then he stirs. He stirs and stirs. Emma adds the chocolate.

Tortul intră în cuptor. După o oră este gata. El este maro și rotund și mare. Bucătăria miroase minunat.

The cake goes into the oven. After an hour it is ready. It is brown and round and big. The kitchen smells wonderful.
