A Snowman for Grandma

It is winter. It is snowing. The garden is white, the roof is white, and the street is white too.

Sekarang musim dingin. Salju turun. Taman berwarna putih, atap rumah berwarna putih, dan jalanan juga berwarna putih.

Sophie and her brother Max are at Grandma’s. Grandma lives in a small house in a village. Sophie is nine. Max is six.

Sophie dan adik laki-lakinya, Max, berada di rumah Nenek. Nenek tinggal di sebuah rumah kecil di sebuah desa. Sophie berumur sembilan tahun. Max berumur enam tahun.

Grandma loves snow. Every winter she builds a snowman with Sophie and Max. But today Grandma is ill. She has a cold. She is lying in bed, coughing.

Nenek suka salju. Setiap musim dingin, dia membuat manusia salju bersama Sophie dan Max. Namun hari ini Nenek sakit. Dia masuk angin. Dia berbaring di tempat tidur dan batuk.

“So much snow,” says Grandma. She looks out of the window. “And I have to stay in bed. The doctor says no.”

“Banyak sekali salju,” kata Nenek. Dia melihat ke luar jendela. “Dan aku harus tetap berada di tempat tidur. Dokter melarangku keluar.”

Sophie and Max go into the kitchen. Max is sad. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow.”

Sophie dan Max pergi ke dapur. Max merasa sedih. “Nenek tidak bisa pergi ke luar ke tempat salju.”

Sophie thinks. Then she laughs. “Grandma can’t go out in the snow. But the snow can come to Grandma!”

Sophie berpikir. Lalu dia tertawa. “Nenek tidak bisa pergi ke tempat salju. Tapi salju bisa datang ke tempat Nenek!”

“Snow in the bed?” asks Max. “That’s cold. And wet.”

“Salju di tempat tidur?” tanya Max. “Itu dingin. Dan basah.”

“No, no. Come with me! I have a plan.”

“Bukan, bukan begitu. Ayo ikut aku! Aku punya rencana.”

They put on their coats, their hats and their gloves. They go into the garden. In front of Grandma’s window there is lots of snow. A great deal of snow.

Mereka memakai jaket, topi wol, dan sarung tangan. Mereka pergi ke taman. Di depan jendela kamar Nenek ada banyak salju. Sangat banyak salju.

“We’ll build a snowman,” says Sophie. “Right here. In front of the window. Then Grandma can see the snowman all day.”

“Kita membuat manusia salju,” kata Sophie. “Tepat di sini. Di depan jendela. Jadi Nenek bisa melihat manusia salju itu sepanjang hari.”
