Dwaj bracia
Two Brothers
Dawno temu w pewnej wiosce w Korei żyło dwóch braci. Nolbu był starszym bratem, a Heungbu był młodszym.
Long ago, two brothers lived in a village in Korea. Nolbu was the older brother, and Heungbu was the younger one.
Kiedy zmarł ich ojciec, zostawił duży dom, pola ryżowe i wiele zwierząt.
When their father died, he left a big house, rice fields and many animals.
Nolbu zabrał wszystko dla siebie. „Jestem starszym synem”, powiedział. „To wszystko jest moje”.
Nolbu took everything for himself. “I’m the older son,” he said. “All of this is mine.”
Potem zwrócił się do brata: „Zabierz żonę oraz dzieci i odejdź. Nie ma tu dla was miejsca”.
Then he turned to his brother. “Take your wife and children and go. There’s no place for you here.”
Nolbu był bogaty, ale chciwy i niedobry. Heungbu był ubogi, ale miał dobre serce.
Nolbu was rich, but he was greedy and unkind. Heungbu was poor, but he had a good heart.
Heungbu zbudował małą chatkę ze słomy na skraju wioski. Była tak mała, że w nocy jego stopy wystawały przez ścianę. Kiedy padał deszcz, woda wlewała się przez dach.
Heungbu built a little straw hut at the edge of the village. It was so small that his feet went through the wall at night. When it rained, water came in through the roof.
Heungbu i jego żona ciężko pracowali. Robili słomiane buty i sprzedawali je na targu. Jednak nigdy nie było dość jedzenia dla wszystkich ich dzieci.
Heungbu and his wife worked hard. They made straw shoes and sold them at the market. But there was never enough food for all their children.
Pewnej zimy w domu w ogóle nie było ryżu. Dzieci płakały z głodu.
One winter there was no rice in the house at all. The children cried with hunger.
„Pójdę do mojego brata”, powiedział Heungbu. „Może da nam trochę ryżu”.
“I’ll go to my brother,” said Heungbu. “Maybe he’ll give us a little rice.”
Na podwórku Nolbu były tłuste świnie, krowy i kury. Psy pobiegły do Heungbu i zaczęły szczekać.
In Nolbu’s yard there were fat pigs, cows and chickens. The dogs ran at Heungbu and barked.
„Bracie, proszę, pomóż nam”, powiedział Heungbu. „Moje dzieci nie jadły od trzech dni. Czy możesz pożyczyć nam trochę ryżu? Wszystko ci oddam”.
“Brother, please help us,” said Heungbu. “My children haven’t eaten for three days. Can you lend us some rice? I’ll pay you back.”
„Nie mam dla ciebie ryżu”, powiedział Nolbu. „Odejdź i nie wracaj!”
“I have no rice for you,” said Nolbu. “Go away and don’t come back!”
W kuchni żona Nolbu gotowała ryż. Heungbu poprosił ją także o trochę. Rozgniewała się i uderzyła go w policzek swoją mokrą łopatką do ryżu.
In the kitchen, Nolbu’s wife was cooking rice. Heungbu asked her for a little too. She got angry and hit his cheek with her wet rice paddle.
