Hoppel no puede dormir

Es de noche en el bosque. La luna es redonda y brillante. Los pájaros duermen. Los ratones duermen. Los zorros duermen.

It is night in the forest. The moon is round and bright. The birds are asleep. The mice are asleep. The foxes are asleep.

También los conejos duermen. Mamá Coneja duerme. Papá Conejo duerme. Los hermanos duermen. Solo el pequeño Hoppel no duerme.

The rabbits are asleep too. Mummy Rabbit is asleep. Daddy Rabbit is asleep. The brothers and sisters are asleep. Only little Hoppel isn’t asleep.

Hoppel está en la cama. Cierra los ojos. Abre los ojos. Vuelve a cerrar los ojos.

Hoppel lies in bed. He closes his eyes. He opens his eyes. He closes his eyes again.

Entonces oye algo. «Krrr. Krrr.»

Then he hears something. “Grrr. Grrr.”

Hoppel abre los ojos. «¿Qué es eso?»

Hoppel opens his eyes. “What’s that?”

«Krrr. Krrr.»

“Grrr. Grrr.”

Hoppel está un poco nervioso. Se levanta y sale despacio de la casa. La casa de los conejos está debajo de un árbol.

Hoppel is a little nervous. He gets up and goes quietly out of the house. The rabbits’ house is under a tree.

Arriba en el árbol está el búho. Tiene ojos grandes y amarillos. Los búhos no duermen por la noche.

Up in the tree sits the owl. She has big yellow eyes. Owls don’t sleep at night.

«¡Búho, búho! ¿Haces tú “Krrr, krrr”?»

“Owl, Owl! Are you going ‘grrr, grrr’?”

«No», dice el búho. «Yo hago “Uhu, uhu”. No “Krrr”.»

“No,” says the owl. “I go ‘hoo-hoo’. Not ‘grrr’.”

«Krrr. Krrr.»

“Grrr. Grrr.”

«¡Ahí! ¿Oyes eso?», pregunta Hoppel. El búho no oye nada. «Pregúntale a la rana», dice él. «La rana está en el estanque.»

“There! Can you hear that?” asks Hoppel. The owl hears nothing. “Ask the frog,” she says. “The frog is at the pond.”
