Hoppel nie może spać

Jest noc w lesie. Księżyc jest okrągły i jasny. Ptaki śpią. Myszy śpią. Lisy śpią.

It is night in the forest. The moon is round and bright. The birds are asleep. The mice are asleep. The foxes are asleep.

Zające też śpią. Mama Zając śpi. Tata Zając śpi. Rodzeństwo śpi. Tylko mały Hoppel nie śpi.

The rabbits are asleep too. Mummy Rabbit is asleep. Daddy Rabbit is asleep. The brothers and sisters are asleep. Only little Hoppel isn’t asleep.

Hoppel leży w łóżku. On zamyka oczy. On otwiera oczy. On znowu zamyka oczy.

Hoppel lies in bed. He closes his eyes. He opens his eyes. He closes his eyes again.

Wtedy on coś słyszy. „Krrr. Krrr.”

Then he hears something. “Grrr. Grrr.”

Hoppel otwiera oczy. „Co to jest?”

Hoppel opens his eyes. “What’s that?”

„Krrr. Krrr.”

“Grrr. Grrr.”

Hoppel jest trochę niespokojny. On wstaje i idzie cicho z domu. Dom zajęcy jest pod drzewem.

Hoppel is a little nervous. He gets up and goes quietly out of the house. The rabbits’ house is under a tree.

Na górze na drzewie siedzi sowa. Ona ma duże żółte oczy. Sowy nie śpią w nocy.

Up in the tree sits the owl. She has big yellow eyes. Owls don’t sleep at night.

„Sowo, sowo! Czy ty robisz «Krrr, krrr»?”

“Owl, Owl! Are you going ‘grrr, grrr’?”

„Nie”, mówi sowa. „Ja robię «Uhu, uhu». Nie «Krrr».”

“No,” says the owl. “I go ‘hoo-hoo’. Not ‘grrr’.”

„Krrr. Krrr.”

“Grrr. Grrr.”

„O! Słyszysz to?”, pyta Hoppel. Sowa nic nie słyszy. „Zapytaj żabę”, mówi ona. „Żaba jest przy stawie.”

“There! Can you hear that?” asks Hoppel. The owl hears nothing. “Ask the frog,” she says. “The frog is at the pond.”
