Hoppel e a primeira neve

É de manhã na floresta. O pequeno coelho Hoppel acorda. Está frio. Muito frio. E lá fora está tudo em silêncio.

It is morning in the forest. Little Hoppel the rabbit wakes up. It is cold. Very cold. And outside it is completely quiet.

Hoppel sai de casa. Depois ele para. Ele arregala os olhos. A floresta está branca! A árvore está branca. A cerca viva está branca. Tudo está branco.

Hoppel goes out of the house. Then he stops. His eyes go wide. The forest is white! The tree is white. The hedge is white. Everything is white.

Hoppel dá um passo. O chão é macio e frio. As patas dele estão molhadas. “Mamãe! Mamãe! A floresta quebrou!”

Hoppel takes a step. The ground is soft and cold. His paws are wet. “Mummy! Mummy! The forest is broken!”

A Mamãe Coelho sai de casa. Ela ri. “A floresta não quebrou, Hoppel. Isso é neve. É inverno.”

Mummy Rabbit comes out of the house. She laughs. “The forest isn’t broken, Hoppel. That’s snow. It’s winter.”

Hoppel pula na neve. Ele rola na neve. Ele come um pouco de neve. Frio! Ele ri. Neve é muito legal!

Hoppel jumps into the snow. He rolls in the snow. He eats a little snow. Cold! He laughs. Snow is great!

“Vou mostrar a neve para os meus amigos!”, grita Hoppel. E ele sai pulando.

“I’m going to show my friends the snow!” shouts Hoppel. And off he hops.

Primeiro ele pula até o lago. Mas o lago está diferente. A água não é mais água. É dura e lisa. É gelo.

First he hops to the pond. But the pond is different. The water isn’t water any more. It is hard and smooth. It is ice.

“Sapo, sapo! Onde você está? Olha só, neve!” Mas nenhum sapo vem. Nenhum “Quak, quak”. Nada.

“Frog, Frog! Where are you? Look, snow!” But no frog comes. No “croak, croak”. Nothing.

Depois Hoppel pula até a cerca viva. Embaixo da cerca viva tem um monte redondo de folhas. O monte faz “Chrrr, chrrr”.

Then Hoppel hops to the hedge. Under the hedge there is a round heap of leaves. The heap goes “zzzz, zzzz”.

“Ouriço, ouriço! Acorda! Olha só, neve!” Mas o ouriço não acorda. Ele continua roncando.

“Hedgehog, Hedgehog! Wake up! Look, snow!” But the hedgehog doesn’t wake up. He keeps on snoring.

Hoppel fica triste. Ele senta sozinho na neve. “Os meus amigos sumiram”, ele diz baixinho. “Ou eles estão doentes.”

Hoppel is sad. He sits alone in the snow. “My friends are gone,” he says quietly. “Or they’re ill.”
