Nehirdeki Şeftali
The Peach in the River
Çok çok uzun zaman önce, Japonya’da yaşlı bir adam ve yaşlı bir kadın yaşadı. Onlar fakirdi ve hiç çocukları yoktu.
Long, long ago, an old man and an old woman lived in Japan. They were poor, and they had no children.
Bir sabah yaşlı adam ot kesmek için tepelere gitti. Yaşlı kadın çamaşırları nehire götürdü.
One morning the old man went to the hills to cut grass. The old woman took the clothes to the river.
Aniden suda büyük bir şey gördü. Bu bir şeftaliydi, dünyadaki en büyük şeftaliydi! Nehirde yavaşça aşağıya indi, küt, küt, küt.
Suddenly she saw something big in the water. It was a peach, the biggest peach in the world! It came down the river slowly, bump, bump, bump.
“Ne harika bir şeftali!” dedi yaşlı kadın. “Kocam için onu eve götüreceğim.”
“What a wonderful peach!” said the old woman. “I’m going to take it home for my husband.”
Ona uzanmaya çalıştı ama şeftali çok uzaktaydı. Bu yüzden el çırptı ve küçük bir şarkı söyledi.
She tried to reach it, but it was too far away. So she clapped her hands and sang a little song.
“Uzak su acıdır, yakın su tatlıdır. Tatlı suya gel, küçük şeftali!”
“Far water is bitter, near water is sweet. Come to the sweet water, little peach!”
Ve şeftali gittikçe yaklaştı. Sonunda kadının önünde durdu. Kadın onu aldı ve aceleyle eve gitti.
And the peach came closer and closer. At last it stopped in front of her. She picked it up and hurried home.
Akşamleyin yaşlı adam eve geldi.
In the evening the old man came home.
“Kocacığım, çabuk gel!” dedi yaşlı kadın. “Sana bir hediyem var.”
“Husband, come quickly!” said the old woman. “I have a present for you.”
Ona şeftaliyi gösterdi ve adamın gözleri büyüdü. “Böyle bir şeftaliyi hiç görmedim!” dedi. “Onu nereden aldın?”
She showed him the peach, and his eyes grew wide. “I have never seen a peach like this!” he said. “Where did you buy it?”
“Onu satın almadım. Onu nehirde buldum.”
“I didn’t buy it. I found it in the river.”
“O zaman onu şimdi yiyelim. Çok açım.”
“Then let’s eat it now. I’m very hungry.”
Yaşlı adam bir bıçak aldı. Ama onu kesmeden önce, şeftali kendiliğinden açıldı.
The old man took a knife. But before he could cut it, the peach opened by itself.
