O trzeciej w nocy znowu się zaczęło.
At three in the morning, it started again.
Bum. Potem kroki. Potem gwizdanie. Potem drzwi. Potem cisza.
Boom. Then footsteps. Then whistling. Then the door. Then silence.
Nazywam się Lena. Mieszkam na trzecim piętrze w starej kamienicy w Lipsku. Wprowadziłam się tutaj dwa miesiące temu. Mieszkanie jest małe, ale jasne. Kocham je. Tylko nocy nie kocham.
My name is Lena. I live on the third floor of an old building in Leipzig. I moved in two months ago. The flat is small but bright. I love it. It’s just the nights I don’t love.
Każdej nocy o trzeciej słyszę sąsiada nade mną. Nie znam go. Nigdy go nie widziałam. Na jego skrzynce na listy jest napisane tylko: „J. Brandt, 4. piętro”.
Every night at three I hear the neighbour above me. I don’t know him. I have never seen him. His mailbox just says: “J. Brandt, 4th floor.”
Pracuję w biurze. O ósmej siedzę przy komputerze. Po sześciu tygodniach z małą ilością snu byłam wściekła. Bardzo wściekła.
I work in an office. At eight o’clock I’m at my computer. After six weeks of very little sleep, I was angry. Very angry.
Tej nocy wstałam. Wzięłam kartkę papieru i napisałam:
That night I got up. I took a sheet of paper and wrote:
Drogi sąsiedzie z 4. piętra, jest trzecia w nocy. Inni ludzie o tej porze śpią. Może już Pan o tym słyszał? L. Weber, 3. piętro
Dear neighbour on the 4th floor, it is three in the morning. Other people sleep at this time. Maybe you’ve heard of it? L. Weber, 3rd floor
Przykleiłam karteczkę na jego drzwi. Potem szybko zbiegłam na dół. Moje serce biło głośno. Głośniej niż jego kroki.
I stuck the note on his door. Then I ran quickly back downstairs. My heart was pounding. Louder than his footsteps.
Rano jak zwykle poszłam do piekarni na rogu. Piekarz jest młody, wysoki i zawsze trochę zmęczony. Dał mi mojego precla.
In the morning I went to the bakery on the corner, as always. The baker is young, tall and always a little tired. He handed me my pretzel.
„Źle Pani dzisiaj wygląda”, powiedział.
“You look terrible today,” he said.
„Dziękuję”, powiedziałam. „Mój sąsiad to potwór”.
“Thanks,” I said. “My neighbour is a monster.”
Zaśmiał się. Ja się nie zaśmiałam.
He laughed. I didn’t.
Wieczorem otworzyłam moją skrzynkę na listy. W środku leżała karteczka. Żaden rachunek, żadna reklama. Odpowiedź.
In the evening I opened my mailbox. There was a note inside. Not a bill, not an advert. A reply.
