जोनास आठ साल का है। वह हर बुधवार दादाजी के पास होता है। दादाजी बूढ़े हैं, लेकिन हँसमुख हैं। वह अच्छा खाना बनाते हैं, और वह खुशी से कहानियाँ पढ़ते हैं।
Jonas is eight. Every Wednesday he is at Grandpa’s. Grandpa is old, but funny. He cooks well, and he likes reading stories.
आज बुधवार है। जोनास घंटी बजाता है। दादाजी दरवाज़ा खोलते हैं। “नमस्ते, जोनास! अंदर आओ!”
Today is Wednesday. Jonas rings the bell. Grandpa opens the door. “Hello, Jonas! Come in!”
“नमस्ते, दादाजी! क्या आप आज कहानी पढ़ते हैं?” “हाँ, ज़रूर”, दादाजी कहते हैं। “लेकिन पहले मुझे मेरा चश्मा चाहिए।”
“Hello, Grandpa! Will you read a story today?” “Yes, gladly,” says Grandpa. “But first I need my glasses.”
दादाजी ढूँढ़ते हैं। वह मेज़ पर ढूँढ़ते हैं। वहाँ अख़बार है। वहाँ एक कप चाय है। लेकिन वहाँ चश्मा नहीं है।
Grandpa looks. He looks on the table. There is the newspaper. There is a cup of tea. But there are no glasses.
“हूँ”, दादाजी कहते हैं। “मेरा चश्मा कहाँ है?”
“Hm,” says Grandpa. “Where are my glasses?”
जोनास भी ढूँढ़ता है। वह रसोई में ढूँढ़ता है। वह फ्रिज खोलता है। फ्रिज में दूध, पनीर और एक टमाटर हैं। लेकिन चश्मा नहीं है।
Jonas looks too. He looks in the kitchen. He opens the fridge. In the fridge there is milk, cheese and a tomato. But no glasses.
दादाजी गुसलखाने में ढूँढ़ते हैं। वहाँ उनका टूथब्रश है। वहाँ उनकी कंघी है। लेकिन वहाँ चश्मा नहीं है।
Grandpa looks in the bathroom. There is his toothbrush. There is his comb. But there are no glasses.
“शायद बगीचे में?”, जोनास पूछता है। वे बगीचे में जाते हैं। वहाँ पड़ोसी की बिल्ली बैठी है। बिल्ली दादाजी को देखती है। दादाजी बिल्ली को देखते हैं।
“Maybe in the garden?” asks Jonas. They go into the garden. The neighbour’s cat is sitting there. The cat looks at Grandpa. Grandpa looks at the cat.
“क्या तुम्हारे पास मेरा चश्मा है?”, दादाजी पूछते हैं। बिल्ली कुछ नहीं कहती है। वह चली जाती है।
“Have you got my glasses?” asks Grandpa. The cat says nothing. She walks away.
“बिल्लियों के पास चश्मा नहीं होता है, दादाजी”, जोनास कहता है। “बिल्लियाँ बहुत अच्छा देखती हैं।”
“Cats don’t have glasses, Grandpa,” says Jonas. “Cats see very well.”
“बिल्लियाँ मज़े में हैं”, दादाजी कहते हैं।
“Lucky cats,” says Grandpa.
