Das rote Fahrrad

Tom ist sechs. Er hat ein neues Fahrrad. Das Fahrrad ist rot. Es hat eine Klingel. Die Klingel macht „Kling-kling“.

Tom is six. He has a new bicycle. The bicycle is red. It has a bell. The bell goes “ding-ding”.

Aber Tom hat ein Problem. Er kann nicht Fahrrad fahren. Noch nicht.

But Tom has a problem. He can’t ride a bike. Not yet.

Seine Schwester Mia ist zehn. Mia fährt schnell. Sie fährt ohne Hände. Sie fährt sogar mit nur einem Fuß.

His sister Mia is ten. Mia rides fast. She rides with no hands. She even rides with just one foot.

„Heute lerne ich das“, sagt Tom. „Heute fahre ich!“

“Today I’m going to learn,” says Tom. “Today I’m going to ride!”

Papa geht mit Tom in den Park. Der Weg im Park ist lang und flach. Papa hält das Fahrrad. Tom sitzt auf dem Sattel.

Dad goes to the park with Tom. The path in the park is long and flat. Dad holds the bicycle. Tom sits on the saddle.

„Los!“, sagt Papa. Tom tritt in die Pedale. Papa läuft neben Tom. Er hält das Fahrrad hinten fest.

“Go!” says Dad. Tom pushes the pedals. Dad runs next to Tom. He holds the bicycle tight at the back.

„Papa, nicht loslassen!“ „Nein, nein. Ich halte fest.“

“Dad, don’t let go!” “No, no. I’m holding on.”

Aber Papa ist nicht mehr jung. Er läuft und läuft. Nach fünf Minuten ist sein Gesicht rot. Es ist so rot wie das Fahrrad.

But Dad isn’t young any more. He runs and runs. After five minutes his face is red. It is as red as the bicycle.

„Pause!“, ruft Papa. Er sitzt auf einer Bank und atmet laut.

“Break!” calls Dad. He sits on a bench and breathes loudly.

Tom probiert es allein. Er fährt einen Meter. Dann fällt er um. Bumm! Er fährt zwei Meter. Bumm! Jetzt tut das Knie weh.

Tom tries on his own. He rides one metre. Then he falls over. Bump! He rides two metres. Bump! Now his knee hurts.

Tom sitzt im Gras. Er ist wütend. „Das Fahrrad ist doof! Ich kann das nicht!“

Tom sits in the grass. He is angry. “The bike is stupid! I can’t do it!”
