Paul ist sechs. Er hat einen Wackelzahn. Der Zahn ist vorne, oben, in der Mitte.

Paul is six. He has a wobbly tooth. The tooth is at the front, at the top, in the middle.

Paul wackelt mit der Zunge. Der Zahn geht nach vorne. Paul wackelt wieder. Der Zahn geht nach hinten. Aber er fällt nicht raus.

Paul wiggles it with his tongue. The tooth moves forward. Paul wiggles it again. The tooth moves back. But it won’t come out.

In der Schule hat Lisa eine Lücke. Jonas hat zwei Lücken. Und Ali hat sogar drei Lücken. Nur Paul hat noch keine Lücke.

At school Lisa has a gap. Jonas has two gaps. And Ali even has three gaps. Only Paul has no gap yet.

„Die Zahnfee kommt zu Ali“, sagt Lisa. „Jede Nacht. Ali ist reich.“

“The tooth fairy comes to Ali,” says Lisa. “Every night. Ali is rich.”

Paul möchte auch eine Lücke. Und er möchte auch die Zahnfee.

Paul wants a gap too. And he wants the tooth fairy too.

Zu Hause fragt er Mama. „Mama, wie kommt der Zahn raus?“

At home he asks Mum. “Mum, how does the tooth come out?”

„Iss einen Apfel“, sagt Mama. „Einen großen, harten Apfel.“

“Eat an apple,” says Mum. “A big, hard apple.”

Paul isst einen Apfel. Er beißt fest. Der Zahn wackelt. Aber er bleibt drin. Paul isst noch einen Apfel. Und noch einen. Jetzt hat Paul Bauchweh. Aber der Zahn ist immer noch da.

Paul eats an apple. He bites hard. The tooth wobbles. But it stays in. Paul eats another apple. And another one. Now Paul has a tummy ache. But the tooth is still there.

Dann kommt Papa nach Hause. „Ich habe einen Plan“, sagt er. Er holt eine Schnur. „Wir binden die Schnur an den Zahn. Und die Schnur binden wir an die Tür. Dann mache ich die Tür zu. Bumm! Und der Zahn ist draußen.“

Then Dad comes home. “I have a plan,” he says. He fetches a piece of string. “We tie the string to the tooth. And we tie the string to the door. Then I shut the door. Bang! And the tooth is out.”

Paul sieht die Schnur an. Er sieht die Tür an. Er sieht Papa an. „Nein, danke“, sagt Paul. Er läuft schnell in sein Zimmer.

Paul looks at the string. He looks at the door. He looks at Dad. “No, thank you,” says Paul. He runs quickly to his room.
