La Cigale et la Fourmi

Les Fables d’Ésope pour les Enfants Les Fourmis et la Cigale Un beau jour de fin d’automne, une famille de Fourmis s’affairait au soleil, faisant sécher le grain qu’elles avaient stocké pendant l’été, lorsqu’une Cigale affamée, son violon sous le bras, s’approcha et demanda humblement une bouchée à manger.

The Æsop for Children The Ants & the Grasshopper One bright day in late autumn a family of Ants were bustling about in the warm sunshine, drying out the grain they had stored up during the summer, when a starving Grasshopper, his fiddle under his arm, came up and humbly begged for a bite to eat.

« Quoi ! » s’écrièrent les Fourmis surprises, « vous n’avez rien mis de côté pour l’hiver ? Qu’avez-vous bien fait tout l’été dernier ? »

“What!” cried the Ants in surprise, “haven’t you stored anything away for the winter? What in the world were you doing all last summer?”

« Je n’ai pas eu le temps de stocker de la nourriture », geignit la Cigale ; « j’étais tellement occupée à faire de la musique qu’avant de m’en rendre compte, l’été était passé. »

“I didn’t have time to store up any food,” whined the Grasshopper; “I was so busy making music that before I knew it the summer was gone.”

Les Fourmis haussèrent les épaules avec dégoût.

The Ants shrugged their shoulders in disgust.

« Vous faisiez de la musique, n’est-ce pas ? » crièrent-elles. « Très bien ; maintenant, dansez ! » Et elles tournèrent le dos à la Cigale et continuèrent leur travail.

“Making music, were you?” they cried. “Very well; now dance!” And they turned their backs on the Grasshopper and went on with their work.

Il y a un temps pour le travail et un temps pour le jeu.
