The Æsop for Children The Fox & the Grapes A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree.

L’uva sembrava pronta a scoppiare di succo e l’acquolina in bocca alla volpe aumentava mentre la guardava con desiderio.

The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox’s mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

Il grappolo pendeva da un ramo alto e la volpe dovette saltare per raggiungerlo. La prima volta che saltò lo mancò di molto. Così si allontanò di qualche passo e prese la rincorsa per saltare, ma non riuscì comunque ad arrivarci.

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more.

Ci provò ancora e ancora, ma invano.

Again and again he tried, but in vain.

Ora si sedette e guardò l’uva con disgusto.

Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

“Che sciocco che sono”, disse. “Eccomi qui a sfinirmi per ottenere un grappolo d’uva acerba che non vale nemmeno la pena di desiderare.”

“What a fool I am,” he said. “Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for.”

E se ne andò via con estremo disprezzo.

And off he walked very, very scornfully.

Ci sono molte persone che fingono di disprezzare e sminuire ciò che è fuori dalla loro portata.

There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.
