“星期五是玛雅的生日，”利奥说，“我在她的护照上看到了。我们要给她办一个惊喜聚会。”

“Friday is Maya’s birthday,” said Leo. “I’ve seen it on her passport. And we’re going to give her a surprise party.”

萨姆的声音恢复了一点，但还没全好。“你为什么看她的护照？”

Sam’s voice was back, but only half of it. “Why were you looking at her passport?”

“护照就在桌子上，是打开的。好吧，本来是合上的，后来打开了。这不重要。你听我说，玛雅每天晚上都要工作，她总是很累，从来不出去玩。她需要一个聚会。要有蛋糕、音乐，还要有很多人跳出来大喊‘惊喜！’”

“It was on the table. It was open. Well, it was closed, and then it was open. That’s not important. Listen. Maya works every night, she’s always tired, she never has fun. She needs a party. With a cake and music and lots of people who jump out and shout ‘Surprise!’”

“玛雅讨厌突然跳出来的人。”

“Maya hates people who jump out.”

“如果是不好的事情，她才讨厌。这次是个好惊喜。”

“She hates it when it’s a bad surprise. This is a good surprise.”

利奥当然有计划。玛雅星期五晚上要工作，所以星期六早上七点半才会回家。聚会七点就开始。“一个早餐聚会，”利奥说，“从来没有人这样做过。我们会出名的。”

Leo had a plan, of course. Maya was working on Friday night, so she would come home on Saturday morning at half past seven. The party would start at seven. “A breakfast party,” said Leo. “Nobody has ever done that. We’ll be famous.”

“你总是说我们会出名。”

“You always say we’ll be famous.”

“总有一天我是对的。”

“And one day I’ll be right.”

利奥自己写了请帖，贴在楼下的大厅里：玛雅的惊喜聚会！星期六早上七点。四楼B室。请带早餐来。嘘！

Leo wrote the invitation himself and put it up in the entrance hall: SURPRISE PARTY FOR MAYA! SATURDAY 7 A.M. FOURTH FLOOR, FLAT B. BRING SOMETHING FOR BREAKFAST. SHHH!

然后萨姆有了一个想法。他还没来得及多想，就在窗前举起了一块牌子：聚会。星期六。早上七点。来吗？

Then Sam had an idea, and before he could think about it too much, he held a sign up at the window: PARTY. SATURDAY. 7 A.M. COME?

院子对面，诺拉写道：早上七点？？？过了一会儿，她又写：好吧。我会带东西来。我也有东西给你看。

Across the courtyard, Nora wrote: 7 A.M.??? Then, after a moment: OK. I’LL BRING SOMETHING. I ALSO HAVE SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU.
