Król, który mówił za dużo
The King Who Talked Too Much
Dawno temu król Brahmadatta rządził miastem Benares w Indiach. Był dobrym królem, ale miał jeden duży problem. Mówił za dużo.
Long ago, King Brahmadatta ruled the city of Benares in India. He was a good king, but he had one big problem. He talked too much.
Mówił rano i mówił w nocy. Mówił przy obiedzie i w ogrodzie. Kiedy inni ludzie chcieli coś powiedzieć, on nie przestawał. Nikt nie mógł powiedzieć ani słowa.
He talked in the morning, and he talked at night. He talked at dinner and in the garden. When other people wanted to speak, he did not stop. Nobody could say a word.
Król miał mądrego doradcę. Doradca lubił króla i chciał mu pomóc. Ale jak mógł powiedzieć królowi: „Mówisz za dużo”?
The king had a wise adviser. The adviser liked the king and wanted to help him. But how could he tell a king, “You talk too much”?
„Muszę poczekać” – pomyślał doradca. „Pewnego dnia znajdę odpowiedni moment”.
“I must wait,” the adviser thought. “One day I will find the right moment.”
Daleko stąd, w górach na północy, było małe jezioro. Mieszkał tam żółw. Był miłym żółwiem, ale był bardzo podobny do króla. Uwielbiał mówić.
Far away, in the mountains in the north, there was a little lake. A tortoise lived there. He was a kind tortoise, but he was very like the king. He loved talking.
Rozmawiał z rybami i z żabami. Rozmawiał z drzewami i ze skałami. Mówił nawet wtedy, gdy nikt nie słuchał.
He talked to the fish and to the frogs. He talked to the trees and to the rocks. He even talked when nobody was listening.
Każdej wiosny dwie dzikie gęsi przylatywały nad jezioro. Były siostrami i były dobrymi przyjaciółkami żółwia. Żółw mówił, a gęsi słuchały. Były bardzo cierpliwe.
Every spring, two wild geese flew to the lake. They were sisters, and they were good friends of the tortoise. The tortoise talked, and the geese listened. They were very patient.
Ale pewnego lata stało się coś złego z małym jeziorem.
But one summer, something bad happened to the little lake.
