The Wrong Parcel

The parcel started talking at 7:02 in the morning.

Um 7:02 Uhr am Morgen fängt das Paket an zu sprechen.

“Wake up, Nora,” it said. A woman’s voice, soft and sad. “You promised.”

„Wach auf, Nora“, sagt es. Eine Frauenstimme, leise und traurig. „Du hast es versprochen.“

Sam stood in the kitchen in his socks. It was his third day in the flat. He looked at the box on the table. The box looked back. Well, not really. But it felt like that.

Sam steht in Socken in der Küche. Es ist sein dritter Tag in der Wohnung. Er sieht das Paket auf dem Tisch an. Das Paket sieht ihn an. Na gut, nicht wirklich. Aber so fühlt es sich an.

“Leo?” he called. “Maya? Is anyone awake?”

„Leo?“, ruft er. „Maya? Ist jemand wach?“

A door opened. Leo came out with his hair everywhere and one eye closed.

Eine Tür geht auf. Leo kommt raus, die Haare total durcheinander, ein Auge zu.

“What’s wrong? Is it a fire? Tell me it’s not a fire. I cleaned the pan yesterday. Almost.”

„Was ist los? Brennt’s? Sag mir, dass es nicht brennt. Ich hab die Pfanne gestern sauber gemacht. Fast.“

“It’s not a fire. It’s the parcel. It talks.”

„Es brennt nicht. Es ist das Paket. Es spricht.“

“Parcels don’t talk, Sam.”

„Pakete sprechen nicht, Sam.“

“Wake up, Nora,” said the parcel. “You promised.”

„Wach auf, Nora“, sagt das Paket. „Du hast es versprochen.“

Leo opened his other eye. “Okay. That parcel talks.”

Leo macht das andere Auge auf. „Okay. Das Paket spricht.“
