Four Little Kittens

Lena is seven years old. She has a cat. The cat is called Mimi. Mimi is small and grey, and she has white paws.

लीना सात साल की है। उसके पास एक बिल्ली है। बिल्ली का नाम मीमी है। मीमी छोटी और स्लेटी है, और उसके पंजे सफ़ेद हैं।

But Mimi is not alone any more. Mimi has four babies. The babies are eight weeks old now. They are small, round and very cheeky.

लेकिन मीमी अब अकेली नहीं है। मीमी के चार बच्चे हैं। बच्चे अब आठ हफ़्ते के हैं। वे छोटे, गोल-मटोल और बहुत नटखट हैं।

Lena has a name for each baby. The white kitten is called Snow. The black kitten is called Night. The grey kitten is called Mouse. And the grey kitten with the white paws is called Mini. Mini is like Mimi, only smaller.

लीना के पास हर बच्चे के लिए एक नाम है। सफ़ेद बिल्ली का नाम बर्फ़ है। काली बिल्ली का नाम रात है। स्लेटी बिल्ली का नाम चुहिया है। और सफ़ेद पंजों वाली स्लेटी बिल्ली का नाम मिनी है। मिनी मीमी जैसी है, बस उससे छोटी है।

Every morning five cats come into Lena’s room now. They jump onto the bed. “Miaow! Miaow! Miaow! Miaow! Miaow!” Then Lena gets up. Quickly.

हर सुबह अब पाँच बिल्लियाँ लीना के कमरे में आती हैं। वे बिस्तर पर कूदती हैं। “म्याऊँ! म्याऊँ! म्याऊँ! म्याऊँ! म्याऊँ!” फिर लीना उठती है। जल्दी से।

The babies play all day. Snow plays with Dad’s socks. Night plays with the newspaper. Mouse sleeps in the flowerpot. And Mini? Mini hides. Mini is very good at hiding, like Mimi.

बच्चे दिन भर खेलते हैं। बर्फ़ पापा के मोज़ों से खेलती है। रात अख़बार से खेलती है। चुहिया गमले में सोती है। और मिनी? मिनी छिपती है। मिनी छिपने में बहुत अच्छी है, मीमी की तरह।

In the evening Dad sits on the sofa. He has a cat on his head, a cat on his tummy and a cat in his pocket. He looks at Lena.

शाम को पापा सोफ़े पर बैठते हैं। उनके सिर पर एक बिल्ली है, पेट पर एक बिल्ली है और जेब में एक बिल्ली है। वह लीना को देखते हैं।

“Lena, five cats are too many. The babies are big enough now. They need a new home.”

“लीना, पाँच बिल्लियाँ बहुत ज़्यादा हैं। बच्चे अब काफ़ी बड़े हैं। उन्हें एक नया घर चाहिए।”

Lena is sad. But she knows Dad is right. The house is too small for five cats.

लीना उदास है। लेकिन वह जानती है: पापा सही कह रहे हैं। घर पाँच बिल्लियों के लिए बहुत छोटा है।

“Okay,” she says quietly. “But the babies only go to friends.”

“ठीक है,” वह धीरे से कहती है। “लेकिन बच्चे सिर्फ़ दोस्तों के पास जाएँगे।”
