Lena is zeven jaar oud.
Lena is seven years old. She has a cat. The cat is called Mimi. Mimi is small and grey, and she has white paws.
But Mimi is not alone any more. Mimi has four babies. The babies are eight weeks old now. They are small, round and very cheeky.
Lena has a name for each baby. The white kitten is called Snow. The black kitten is called Night. The grey kitten is called Mouse. And the grey kitten with the white paws is called Mini. Mini is like Mimi, only smaller.
“Miau! Miau! Miau! Miau! Miau!” Dan staat Lena op. Snel.
Every morning five cats come into Lena’s room now. They jump onto the bed. “Miaow! Miaow! Miaow! Miaow! Miaow!” Then Lena gets up. Quickly.
De baby’s spelen de hele dag. Sneeuw speelt met de sokken van papa. Nacht speelt met de krant. Muis slaapt in de bloempot. En Mini? Mini verstopt zich. Mini is heel goed in verstoppen, net als Mimi.
The babies play all day. Snow plays with Dad’s socks. Night plays with the newspaper. Mouse sleeps in the flowerpot. And Mini? Mini hides. Mini is very good at hiding, like Mimi.
In the evening Dad sits on the sofa. He has a cat on his head, a cat on his tummy and a cat in his pocket. He looks at Lena.
“Lena, vijf katten zijn te veel. De baby’s zijn nu groot genoeg. Ze hebben een nieuw huis nodig.”
“Lena, five cats are too many. The babies are big enough now. They need a new home.”
Lena is verdrietig.
Lena is sad. But she knows Dad is right. The house is too small for five cats.
“Okay,” she says quietly. “But the babies only go to friends.”
