Lena ha sette anni. Ha una gatta. La gatta si chiama Mimi. Mimi è piccola e grigia. Ha le zampe bianche.
Lena is seven years old. She has a cat. The cat is called Mimi. Mimi is small and grey. She has white paws.
Ogni mattina Mimi va nella camera di Lena. Salta sul letto e fa: «Miao!» Poi Lena si alza.
Every morning Mimi comes into Lena’s room. She jumps onto the bed and says, “Miaow!” Then Lena gets up.
Ma oggi tutto è diverso. Oggi Mimi non viene. Lena si sveglia da sola. Il letto è vuoto. Nessun “miao”. Niente.
But today everything is different. Today Mimi doesn’t come. Lena wakes up alone. The bed is empty. No “miaow”. Nothing.
«Mimi?», chiama Lena. «Mimi, dove sei?»
“Mimi?” calls Lena. “Mimi, where are you?”
Lena cerca in cucina. La mamma beve il caffè. «Mamma, dov’è Mimi?» «Non lo so», dice la mamma. «Forse in giardino?»
Lena looks in the kitchen. Mum is drinking coffee. “Mum, where is Mimi?” “I don’t know,” says Mum. “Maybe in the garden?”
Lena va in giardino. L’erba è bagnata. Un uccello è sull’albero. Ma Mimi non c’è.
Lena goes into the garden. The grass is wet. A bird is sitting in the tree. But Mimi isn’t there.
«Mimi! Mimi!» Lena chiama forte. L’uccello vola via. Ma nessun gatto viene.
“Mimi! Mimi!” Lena calls loudly. The bird flies away. But no cat comes.
Lena torna in casa. Cerca sotto il divano. Lì c’è una palla. C’è un calzino. C’è un vecchio biscotto. Ma non c’è nessun gatto.
Lena goes back into the house. She looks under the sofa. There is a ball. There is a sock. There is an old biscuit. But there is no cat.
Cerca dietro l’armadio. Lì c’è polvere. Molta polvere. Lena deve starnutire. «Etciù!» Ma non c’è nessun gatto.
She looks behind the wardrobe. There is dust. Lots of dust. Lena has to sneeze. “Atchoo!” But there is no cat.
Il papà entra in soggiorno. «Lena, che cosa fai laggiù?» «Cerco Mimi. Mimi non c’è più!»
Dad comes into the living room. “Lena, what are you doing down there?” “I’m looking for Mimi. Mimi is gone!”
Anche il papà cerca. Cerca in bagno. Cerca in garage. Cerca anche in macchina. Nessuna Mimi.
Dad looks too. He looks in the bathroom. He looks in the garage. He even looks in the car. No Mimi.
