Une cigogne d’une nature très simple et confiante avait été invitée par une joyeuse troupe de grues à visiter un champ qui venait d’être ensemencé. Mais la fête se termina tristement, tous les oiseaux se retrouvant pris dans les mailles du filet du fermier.
A Stork of a very simple and trusting nature had been asked by a gay party of Cranes to visit a field that had been newly planted. But the party ended dismally with all the birds entangled in the meshes of the Farmer’s net.
La cigogne supplia le fermier de l’épargner.
The Stork begged the Farmer to spare him.
“S’il vous plaît, laissez-moi partir”, plaida-t-elle. “J’appartiens à la famille des cigognes qui, vous le savez, sont des oiseaux honnêtes et de bonne moralité. De plus, j’ignorais que les grues allaient voler.”
“Please let me go,” he pleaded. “I belong to the Stork family who you know are honest and birds of good character. Besides, I did not know the Cranes were going to steal.”
“Tu es peut-être un très bon oiseau”, répondit le fermier, “mais je t’ai attrapée avec les grues voleuses et tu devras partager la même punition qu’elles.”
“You may be a very good bird,” answered the Farmer, “but I caught you with the thieving Cranes and you will have to share the same punishment with them.”
On est jugé par la compagnie que l’on fréquente.
