Dawno, dawno temu, gdy świnie rymowały, a małpy tytoń żuły, kury brały tabakę, by nabrać tężyzny, a kaczki kwakały: kwa, kwa, kwa, o!
Once upon a time when pigs spoke rhyme And monkeys chewed tobacco, And hens took snuff to make them tough, And ducks went quack, quack, quack, O!
Żyła sobie stara maciora z trzema małymi świnkami, a ponieważ nie miała dosyć, by je utrzymać, wysłała je w świat, aby szukały szczęścia. Pierwsza, która wyruszyła, spotkała człowieka z wiązką słomy i rzekła do niego:
There was an old sow with three little pigs, and as she had not enough to keep them, she sent them out to seek their fortune. The first that went off met a man with a bundle of straw, and said to him:
„Proszę pana, niech mi pan da tę słomę, abym zbudował sobie dom”.
“Please, man, give me that straw to build me a house.”
Człowiek tak uczynił, a mała świnka zbudowała z niej dom. Wkrótce nadszedł wilk, zapukał do drzwi i rzekł:
Which the man did, and the little pig built a house with it. Presently came along a wolf, and knocked at the door, and said:
„Mała świnko, mała świnko, wpuść mnie do środka”.
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”
Na co świnka odpowiedziała:
To which the pig answered:
„Nie, nie, na włoski z mej bródki, bródki, bródki”.
“No, no, by the hair of my chiny chin chin.”
Wilk odpowiedział na to:
The wolf then answered to that:
„To będę sapał, i będę dmuchał, i zdmuchnę twój dom”.
“Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in.”
Więc sapał, i dmuchał, i zdmuchnął jej dom, i zjadł małą świnkę.
So he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew his house in, and ate up the little pig.
Druga mała świnka spotkała człowieka z wiązką kolcolistu i rzekła:
The second little pig met a man with a bundle of furze, and said:
„Proszę pana, niech mi pan da ten kolcolist, abym zbudował dom”.
“Please, man, give me that furze to build a house.”
Człowiek tak uczynił, a świnka zbudowała swój dom. Wtedy nadszedł wilk i rzekł:
Which the man did, and the pig built his house. Then along came the wolf, and said:
„Mała świnko, mała świnko, wpuść mnie do środka”.
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”
