Un león y un asno acordaron ir de caza juntos. En su búsqueda de presas, los cazadores vieron a varias cabras montesas correr hacia una cueva y trazaron planes para atraparlas.
A Lion and an Ass agreed to go hunting together. In their search for game the hunters saw a number of Wild Goats run into a cave, and laid plans to catch them.
El asno debía entrar en la cueva y sacar a las cabras, mientras que el león se quedaría en la entrada para abatirlas.
The Ass was to go into the cave and drive the Goats out, while the Lion would stand at the entrance to strike them down.
El plan funcionó a la perfección. El asno armó un alboroto tan espantoso en la cueva, pateando y rebuznando con todas sus fuerzas, que las cabras salieron corriendo presas del pánico, solo para caer víctimas del león.
The plan worked beautifully. The Ass made such a frightful din in the cave, kicking and braying with all his might, that the Goats came running out in a panic of fear, only to fall victim to the Lion.
El asno salió orgulloso de la cueva.
The Ass came proudly out of the cave.
—¿Viste cómo los hice correr? —dijo.
“Did you see how I made them run?” he said.
—Sí, de hecho —respondió el león—, y si no te hubiera conocido a ti y a tu especie, sin duda yo también habría huido.
“Yes, indeed,” answered the Lion, “and if I had not known you and your kind I should certainly have run, too.”
El fanfarrón ruidoso no impresiona ni asusta a quienes lo conocen.
The loud-mouthed boaster does not impress nor frighten those who know him.
