Il Leone e l'Asino

Un Leone e un Asino decisero di andare a caccia insieme. Durante la ricerca di selvaggina, i cacciatori videro un gruppo di Capre selvatiche correre in una grotta e pianificarono di catturarle.

A Lion and an Ass agreed to go hunting together. In their search for game the hunters saw a number of Wild Goats run into a cave, and laid plans to catch them.

L’Asino doveva entrare nella grotta e spingere le Capre fuori, mentre il Leone sarebbe rimasto all’ingresso per abbatterle.

The Ass was to go into the cave and drive the Goats out, while the Lion would stand at the entrance to strike them down.

Il piano funzionò a meraviglia. L’Asino fece un tale baccano nella grotta, scalciando e ragliando con tutte le sue forze, che le Capre uscirono correndo in preda al panico, solo per cadere vittima del Leone.

The plan worked beautifully. The Ass made such a frightful din in the cave, kicking and braying with all his might, that the Goats came running out in a panic of fear, only to fall victim to the Lion.

L’Asino uscì orgogliosamente dalla grotta.

The Ass came proudly out of the cave.

“Hai visto come li ho fatti scappare?” disse.

“Did you see how I made them run?” he said.

“Sì, davvero,” rispose il Leone, “e se non avessi conosciuto te e la tua specie, certamente sarei scappato anch’io.”

“Yes, indeed,” answered the Lion, “and if I had not known you and your kind I should certainly have run, too.”

Il fanfarone chiassoso non impressiona né spaventa chi lo conosce.

The loud-mouthed boaster does not impress nor frighten those who know him.
