La anciana y su cerdito

Una anciana estaba barriendo su casa y encontró una pequeña moneda de seis peniques torcida. «¿Qué haré», dijo ella, «con esta pequeña moneda? Iré al mercado y compraré un cerdito».

An old woman was sweeping her house, and she found a little crooked sixpence. “What,” said she, “shall I do with this little sixpence? I will go to market, and buy a little pig.”

Mientras regresaba a casa, llegó a un paso sobre una valla, pero el cerdito no quería pasar por encima del paso.

As she was coming home, she came to a stile: but the piggy wouldn’t go over the stile.

Caminó un poco más y se encontró con un perro. Entonces le dijo al perro: «¡Perro! ¡muerde al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche!». Pero el perro no quiso.

She went a little further, and she met a dog. So she said to the dog: “Dog! bite pig; piggy won’t go over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the dog wouldn’t.

Caminó un poco más y se encontró con un palo. Entonces dijo: «¡Palo! ¡palo! ¡pega al perro! el perro no quiere morder al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche». Pero el palo no quiso.

She went a little further, and she met a stick. So she said: “Stick! stick! beat dog! dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the stick wouldn’t.

Caminó un poco más y se encontró con un fuego. Entonces dijo: «¡Fuego! ¡fuego! ¡quema el palo; el palo no quiere pegar al perro; el perro no quiere morder al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche». Pero el fuego no quiso.

She went a little further, and she met a fire. So she said: “Fire! fire! burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the fire wouldn’t.

Caminó un poco más y se encontró con un poco de agua. Entonces dijo: «¡Agua, agua! ¡apaga el fuego; el fuego no quiere quemar el palo; el palo no quiere pegar al perro; el perro no quiere morder al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche». Pero el agua no quiso.

She went a little further, and she met some water. So she said: “Water, water! quench fire; fire won’t burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the water wouldn’t.

Caminó un poco más y se encontró con un buey. Entonces dijo: «¡Buey! ¡buey! ¡bebe el agua; el agua no quiere apagar el fuego; el fuego no quiere quemar el palo; el palo no quiere pegar al perro; el perro no quiere morder al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche».

She went a little further, and she met an ox. So she said: “Ox! ox! drink water; water won’t quench fire; fire won’t burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.”

Pero el buey no quiso.

But the ox wouldn’t.

Caminó un poco más y se encontró con un carnicero. Entonces dijo: «¡Carnicero! ¡carnicero!

She went a little further, and she met a butcher. So she said: “Butcher! butcher!

¡mata al buey; el buey no quiere beber el agua; el agua no quiere apagar el fuego; el fuego no quiere quemar el palo; el palo no quiere pegar al perro; el perro no quiere morder al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche!». Pero el carnicero no quiso.

She went a little further, and she met a rope. So she said: “Rope! rope!

¡ahorca al carnicero; el carnicero no quiere matar al buey; el buey no quiere beber el agua; el agua no quiere apagar el fuego; el fuego no quiere quemar el palo; el palo no quiere pegar al perro; el perro no quiere morder al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche!». Pero la soga no quiso.

She went a little further, and she met a rat. So she said: “Rat! rat!

¡roe la soga; la soga no quiere ahorcar al carnicero; el carnicero no quiere matar al buey; el buey no quiere beber el agua; el agua no quiere apagar el fuego; el fuego no quiere quemar el palo; el palo no quiere pegar al perro; el perro no quiere morder al cerdo; el cerdito no quiere pasar el paso; y no llegaré a casa esta noche!».
