La storia dei tre orsi

C’era una volta tre orsi, che vivevano insieme in una casa tutta loro, nel bosco. Uno di loro era un orsetto piccolo piccolo; un altro era un orso di media grandezza, e l’altro era un orso grande e grosso.

Once upon a time there were Three Bears, who lived together in a house of their own, in a wood. One of them was a Little, Small Wee Bear; and one was a Middle-sized Bear, and the other was a Great, Huge Bear.

Ognuno di loro aveva una ciotola per la pappa: una ciotolina per l’orsetto piccolo piccolo, una ciotola di media grandezza per l’orso medio, e una ciotola grande per l’orso grande e grosso.

They had each a pot for their porridge, a little pot for the Little, Small, Wee Bear; and a middle-sized pot for the Middle Bear, and a great pot for the Great, Huge Bear.

E ognuno di loro aveva una sedia su cui sedersi: una seggiolina per l’orsetto piccolo piccolo, una sedia di media grandezza per l’orso medio, e una sedia grande per l’orso grande e grosso.

And they had each a chair to sit in; a little chair for the Little, Small, Wee Bear; and a middle-sized chair for the Middle Bear; and a great chair for the Great, Huge Bear.

E ognuno di loro aveva un letto in cui dormire: un lettino per l’orsetto piccolo piccolo, un letto di media grandezza per l’orso medio, e un letto grande per l’orso grande e grosso.

And they had each a bed to sleep in; a little bed for the Little, Small, Wee Bear; and a middle-sized bed for the Middle Bear; and a great bed for the Great, Huge Bear.

Un giorno, dopo aver preparato la pappa per la colazione e averla versata nelle loro ciotole, uscirono a fare una passeggiata nel bosco mentre la pappa si raffreddava, per non scottarsi la bocca iniziando a mangiarla troppo presto.

One day, after they had made the porridge for their breakfast, and poured it into their porridge-pots, they walked out into the wood while the porridge was cooling, that they might not burn their mouths, by beginning too soon to eat it.

E mentre passeggiavano, una vecchia signora arrivò alla casa. Non doveva essere una brava e onesta vecchia signora, perché prima guardò dentro dalla finestra, poi sbirciò dal buco della serratura; e, non vedendo nessuno in casa, sollevò il chiavistello.

And while they were walking, a little old Woman came to the house. She could not have been a good, honest old Woman; for first she looked in at the window, and then she peeped in at the keyhole; and seeing nobody in the house, she lifted the latch.

La porta non era chiusa a chiave, perché gli orsi erano orsi buoni, che non facevano del male a nessuno e non sospettavano mai che qualcuno potesse fare del male a loro.

The door was not fastened, because the Bears were good Bears, who did nobody any harm, and never suspected that anybody would harm them.

Così la vecchia signora aprì la porta ed entrò; e fu ben contenta quando vide la pappa sul tavolo.

So the little old Woman opened the door, and went in; and well pleased she was when she saw the porridge on the table.

Se fosse stata una brava vecchia signora, avrebbe aspettato il ritorno degli orsi e allora, forse, l’avrebbero invitata a fare colazione; perché erano orsi buoni, un po’ rozzi magari, come sono fatti gli orsi, ma nonostante ciò molto gentili e ospitali.

If she had been a good little old Woman, she would have waited till the Bears came home, and then, perhaps, they would have asked her to breakfast; for they were good Bears--a little rough or so, as the manner of Bears is, but for all that very good-natured and hospitable.

Ma lei era una vecchia signora sfacciata e cattiva, e si mise a servirsi da sola.

But she was an impudent, bad old Woman, and set about helping herself.

Così per prima cosa assaggiò la pappa dell’orso grande e grosso, ma era troppo calda per lei; e disse una brutta parola a riguardo. Poi assaggiò la pappa dell’orso medio, ma era troppo fredda per lei; e disse una brutta parola anche a riguardo.

So first she tasted the porridge of the Great, Huge Bear, and that was too hot for her; and she said a bad word about that. And then she tasted the porridge of the Middle Bear, and that was too cold for her; and she said a bad word about that too.

E poi andò alla pappa dell’orsetto piccolo piccolo e l’assaggiò; e non era né troppo calda né troppo fredda, ma proprio giusta; e le piacque così tanto che la mangiò tutta: ma la vecchia signora dispettosa disse una brutta parola sulla ciotolina, perché non ne conteneva abbastanza per lei.

And then she went to the porridge of the Little, Small, Wee Bear, and tasted that; and that was neither too hot, nor too cold, but just right; and she liked it so well, that she ate it all up: but the naughty old Woman said a bad word about the little porridge-pot, because it did not hold enough for her.
