Érase una vez, cuando los cerdos rimaban y los monos mascaban tabaco, y las gallinas tomaban rapé para hacerse fuertes, y los patos hacían cuac, cuac, cuac, ¡oh!
Once upon a time when pigs spoke rhyme And monkeys chewed tobacco, And hens took snuff to make them tough, And ducks went quack, quack, quack, O!
Había una vieja cerda con tres cerditos, y como no tenía suficiente para mantenerlos, los envió a buscar fortuna. El primero que se fue se encontró con un hombre con un fardo de paja y le dijo:
There was an old sow with three little pigs, and as she had not enough to keep them, she sent them out to seek their fortune. The first that went off met a man with a bundle of straw, and said to him:
«Por favor, señor, deme esa paja para construirme una casa».
“Please, man, give me that straw to build me a house.”
El hombre lo hizo, y el cerdito construyó una casa con ella. Al poco tiempo llegó un lobo, llamó a la puerta y dijo:
Which the man did, and the little pig built a house with it. Presently came along a wolf, and knocked at the door, and said:
«Cerdito, cerdito, déjame entrar».
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”
A lo que el cerdito respondió:
To which the pig answered:
«No, no, por los pelos de mi barbilla».
“No, no, by the hair of my chiny chin chin.”
El lobo entonces respondió a eso:
The wolf then answered to that:
«Entonces soplaré, resoplaré y tu casa derribaré».
“Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in.”
Así que sopló, resopló, derribó su casa y se comió al cerdito.
So he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew his house in, and ate up the little pig.
El segundo cerdito se encontró con un hombre con un fardo de aulagas y le dijo:
The second little pig met a man with a bundle of furze, and said:
«Por favor, señor, deme esas aulagas para construir una casa».
“Please, man, give me that furze to build a house.”
El hombre lo hizo, y el cerdito construyó su casa. Entonces llegó el lobo y dijo:
Which the man did, and the pig built his house. Then along came the wolf, and said:
«Cerdito, cerdito, déjame entrar».
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”
