I tre porcellini

C’era una volta, quando i maiali parlavano in rima e le scimmie masticavano tabacco, e le galline prendevano tabacco da fiuto per farsi forti, e le anatre facevano qua, qua, qua, oh!

Once upon a time when pigs spoke rhyme And monkeys chewed tobacco, And hens took snuff to make them tough, And ducks went quack, quack, quack, O!

C’era una vecchia scrofa con tre porcellini e, siccome non ne aveva abbastanza per mantenerli, li mandò a cercare fortuna. Il primo che partì incontrò un uomo con un fascio di paglia e gli disse:

There was an old sow with three little pigs, and as she had not enough to keep them, she sent them out to seek their fortune. The first that went off met a man with a bundle of straw, and said to him:

“Per favore, signore, mi dia quella paglia per costruirmi una casa.”

“Please, man, give me that straw to build me a house.”

L’uomo lo fece e il porcellino vi costruì una casa. Poco dopo arrivò un lupo, bussò alla porta e disse:

Which the man did, and the little pig built a house with it. Presently came along a wolf, and knocked at the door, and said:

“Porcellino, porcellino, fammi entrare.”

“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”

Al che il porcellino rispose:

To which the pig answered:

“No, no, per il pelo del mio mento mentino.”

“No, no, by the hair of my chiny chin chin.”

Il lupo allora rispose:

The wolf then answered to that:

“Allora soffierò, sbufferò e la tua casa abbatterò.”

“Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in.”

Così soffiò, sbuffò, abbatté la casa e si mangiò il porcellino.

So he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew his house in, and ate up the little pig.

Il secondo porcellino incontrò un uomo con un fascio di ginestre e disse:

The second little pig met a man with a bundle of furze, and said:

“Per favore, signore, mi dia quelle ginestre per costruire una casa.”

“Please, man, give me that furze to build a house.”

L’uomo lo fece e il porcellino costruì la sua casa. Poi arrivò il lupo e disse:

Which the man did, and the pig built his house. Then along came the wolf, and said:

“Porcellino, porcellino, fammi entrare.”

“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”
