Il était une fois, quand les cochons rimaient, Que les singes chiquaient du tabac, Que les poules prisaient pour se donner du cran, Et que les canards faisaient coin, coin, coin, ô !
Once upon a time when pigs spoke rhyme And monkeys chewed tobacco, And hens took snuff to make them tough, And ducks went quack, quack, quack, O!
Il y avait une vieille truie avec trois petits cochons, et comme elle n’avait pas assez de quoi les nourrir, elle les envoya chercher fortune. Le premier qui partit rencontra un homme avec une botte de paille et lui dit :
There was an old sow with three little pigs, and as she had not enough to keep them, she sent them out to seek their fortune. The first that went off met a man with a bundle of straw, and said to him:
« S’il vous plaît, monsieur, donnez-moi cette paille pour me construire une maison. »
“Please, man, give me that straw to build me a house.”
Ce que fit l’homme, et le petit cochon construisit une maison avec. Peu après, un loup arriva, frappa à la porte et dit :
Which the man did, and the little pig built a house with it. Presently came along a wolf, and knocked at the door, and said:
« Petit cochon, petit cochon, laisse-moi entrer. »
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”
Ce à quoi le cochon répondit :
To which the pig answered:
« Non, non, par le poil de mon menton, menton, menton. »
“No, no, by the hair of my chiny chin chin.”
Le loup répondit alors :
The wolf then answered to that:
« Alors je vais souffler, et je vais gronder, et je vais faire s’envoler ta maison. »
“Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in.”
Il souffla donc, et il gronda, et il fit s’envoler sa maison, et il mangea le petit cochon.
So he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew his house in, and ate up the little pig.
Le deuxième petit cochon rencontra un homme avec une botte d’ajoncs et dit :
The second little pig met a man with a bundle of furze, and said:
« S’il vous plaît, monsieur, donnez-moi ces ajoncs pour construire une maison. »
“Please, man, give me that furze to build a house.”
Ce que fit l’homme, et le cochon construisit sa maison. Puis le loup arriva et dit :
Which the man did, and the pig built his house. Then along came the wolf, and said:
« Petit cochon, petit cochon, laisse-moi entrer. »
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in.”
