Der Wolf und der Kranich

Ein Wolf hatte sich beim Fressen zu gierig verhalten, und ein Knochen war ihm quer im Hals steckengeblieben. Er konnte ihn weder herauswürgen noch hinunterschlucken, und natürlich konnte er absolut nichts essen. Das war für einen gierigen Wolf natürlich ein schrecklicher Zustand.

A Wolf had been feasting too greedily, and a bone had stuck crosswise in his throat. He could get it neither up nor down, and of course he could not eat a thing. Naturally that was an awful state of affairs for a greedy Wolf.

Also eilte er zum Kranich. Er war sich sicher, dass dieser mit seinem langen Hals und Schnabel den Knochen leicht erreichen und herausziehen könnte.

So away he hurried to the Crane. He was sure that she, with her long neck and bill, would easily be able to reach the bone and pull it out.

“Ich werde dich sehr großzügig belohnen”, sagte der Wolf, “wenn du diesen Knochen für mich herausziehst.”

“I will reward you very handsomely,” said the Wolf, “if you pull that bone out for me.”

Der Kranich war, wie man sich vorstellen kann, sehr beunruhigt bei dem Gedanken, seinen Kopf in den Rachen eines Wolfes zu stecken. Aber da er von habgieriger Natur war, tat er, was der Wolf von ihm verlangte.

The Crane, as you can imagine, was very uneasy about putting her head in a Wolf’s throat. But she was grasping in nature, so she did what the Wolf asked her to do.

Als der Wolf spürte, dass der Knochen weg war, begann er davonzugehen.

When the Wolf felt that the bone was gone, he started to walk away.

“Aber was ist mit meiner Belohnung!”, rief der Kranich ängstlich.

“But what about my reward!” called the Crane anxiously.

“Was!”, knurrte der Wolf und wirbelte herum. “Hast du sie nicht bekommen? Ist es nicht genug, dass ich dich deinen Kopf aus meinem Maul ziehen ließ, ohne ihn abzubissen?”

“What!” snarled the Wolf, whirling around. “Haven’t you got it? Isn’t it enough that I let you take your head out of my mouth without snapping it off?”

Erwarte keine Belohnung für Dienste an den Bösen.
