Das Seefest

Limonade

Lemonade

Am Samstagmorgen riecht die Küche nach Zitronen. Überall sind Zitronen: auf dem Tisch, auf den Stühlen, auf dem Boden.

On Saturday morning, the kitchen smells of lemons. There are lemons everywhere: on the table, on the chairs, on the floor.

Elena: Rosa hat vierzig Jahre lang die Limonade für das Fest gemacht. Zweihundert Zitronen. Zucker, Wasser, ein bisschen Minze. Und ein Geheimnis.

Elena: Rosa made the lemonade for the festival for forty years. Two hundred lemons. Sugar, water, a little mint. And one secret.

„Was für ein Geheimnis?“

“What secret?”

Elena: Wenn ich es dir sage, ist es kein Geheimnis.

Elena: If I tell you, it’s not a secret.

Sie drückt eine Zitrone aus, und der Saft springt auf ihre Brille. Sie lacht. Ich lache auch. Es ist der erste gute Morgen seit langer Zeit.

She squeezes a lemon, and the juice jumps onto her glasses. She laughs. I laugh too. It is the first good morning in a long time.

„Kommst du heute Abend zum Fest?“

“Will you come to the festival tonight?”

Elena: Natürlich. Es ist mein letztes Fest. Jemand muss die Limonade verkaufen. Du kannst auf Italienisch nicht Geld zählen.

Elena: Of course. It’s my last festival. Somebody has to sell the lemonade. You can’t count money in Italian.

„Dein letztes Fest?“

“Your last festival?”

Sie antwortet nicht. Sie schneidet die nächste Zitrone. Ein bisschen fester als vorher.

She doesn’t answer. She cuts the next lemon. A little harder than before.
