Göl Festivali

Limonata

Lemonade

Cumartesi sabahı mutfak limon kokuyor. Her yerde limonlar var: masanın üstünde, sandalyelerde, yerde.

On Saturday morning, the kitchen smells of lemons. There are lemons everywhere: on the table, on the chairs, on the floor.

Elena: Rosa kırk yıl boyunca festival için limonata yaptı. İki yüz limon. Şeker, su, biraz nane. Ve bir sır.

Elena: Rosa made the lemonade for the festival for forty years. Two hundred lemons. Sugar, water, a little mint. And one secret.

“Nasıl bir sır?”

“What secret?”

Elena: Sana söylersem sır olmaz.

Elena: If I tell you, it’s not a secret.

Bir limon sıkıyor ve suyu gözlüğüne sıçrıyor. Gülüyor. Ben de gülüyorum. Uzun zamandan sonra ilk güzel sabah.

She squeezes a lemon, and the juice jumps onto her glasses. She laughs. I laugh too. It is the first good morning in a long time.

“Bu akşam festivale geliyor musun?”

“Will you come to the festival tonight?”

Elena: Tabii ki. Bu benim son festivalim. Birinin limonatayı satması gerekiyor. Sen İtalyanca para sayamazsın.

Elena: Of course. It’s my last festival. Somebody has to sell the lemonade. You can’t count money in Italian.

“Senin son festivalin mi?”

“Your last festival?”

Cevap vermiyor. Sonraki limonu kesiyor. Öncekinden biraz daha sert.

She doesn’t answer. She cuts the next lemon. A little harder than before.
