Gate twelve

Era ora cinci dimineața. Helga Berg a stat în aeroport, la Oslo. Avea un geamantan mare, albastru, și o geantă mică, roșie.

It was five o’clock in the morning. Helga Berg stood in the airport in Oslo. She had a big blue suitcase and a small red bag.

Helga avea cincizeci și opt de ani. Locuia în Bergen, în vestul Norvegiei. Azi avea un bilet spre Bangkok.

Helga was fifty-eight. She lived in Bergen, in the west of Norway. Today she had a ticket to Bangkok.

Era prima ei călătorie singură. Soțul ei a murit acum doi ani. Au călătorit mereu împreună.

It was her first trip alone. Her husband died two years ago. They always travelled together.

La biroul de check-in, o tânără i-a zâmbit. „Bună dimineața. Unde mergeți azi?”

At the check-in desk, a young woman smiled at her. “Good morning. Where are you going today?”

„La Bangkok”, a spus Helga. „În Thailanda.” Vocea ei a fost foarte slabă.

“Bangkok,” said Helga. “In Thailand.” Her voice was very small.

„Pot să văd pașaportul dumneavoastră, vă rog?”

“Can I see your passport, please?”

Helga i-a dat pașaportul. Femeia s-a uitat la poză, apoi la Helga. „Mulțumesc. Vă rog să puneți geamantanul aici.”

Helga gave her the passport. The woman looked at the photo, then at Helga. “Thank you. Please put your suitcase here.”

Helga a pus geamantanul jos. „Este în regulă”, a spus femeia. „Ați vrea un loc la fereastră?”

Helga put the suitcase down. “That’s fine,” said the woman. “Would you like a window seat?”

„Da, vă rog. Aș vrea să văd totul.”

“Yes, please. I’d like to see everything.”

„Aici este biletul dumneavoastră de îmbarcare. Poarta doisprezece. Avionul pleacă la ora șapte.”

“Here is your boarding pass. Gate twelve. The flight leaves at seven.”

Helga a pus biletul de îmbarcare și pașaportul în geanta roșie. A închis geanta cu grijă.

Helga put the boarding pass and the passport in her red bag. She closed the bag carefully.

La poarta doisprezece, s-a așezat lângă fereastra mare. Afară era încă întuneric. Afară ningea.

At gate twelve, she sat down by the big window. It was still dark outside. Snow fell outside.

La șase și jumătate, un bărbat a vorbit la difuzoare. „Zborul 412 spre Bangkok are o întârziere. Noua oră este ora nouă.”

At half past six, a man spoke over the speakers. “Flight 412 to Bangkok has a delay. The new time is nine o’clock.”
