老妇人和她的小猪

一位老妇人正在打扫屋子，捡到了一枚弯弯的小六便士硬币。“我该拿这枚小六便士做什么呢？”她自言自语道，“我要去集市，买一头小猪。”

An old woman was sweeping her house, and she found a little crooked sixpence. “What,” said she, “shall I do with this little sixpence? I will go to market, and buy a little pig.”

她往家走的时候，走到了一处翻墙木阶前；可是小猪怎么也不肯翻过木阶。

As she was coming home, she came to a stile: but the piggy wouldn’t go over the stile.

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一只狗。于是她对狗说：“狗啊！咬小猪；小猪不肯翻木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”可是狗不肯。

She went a little further, and she met a dog. So she said to the dog: “Dog! bite pig; piggy won’t go over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the dog wouldn’t.

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一根木棍。于是她说：“木棍！木棍！打狗！狗不肯咬小猪；小猪翻不过木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”可是木棍不肯。

She went a little further, and she met a stick. So she said: “Stick! stick! beat dog! dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the stick wouldn’t.

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一堆火。于是她说：“火啊！火啊！烧木棍；木棍不肯打狗；狗不肯咬小猪；小猪翻不过木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”可是火不肯。

She went a little further, and she met a fire. So she said: “Fire! fire! burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the fire wouldn’t.

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一些水。于是她说：“水啊，水啊！灭火；火不肯烧木棍；木棍不肯打狗；狗不肯咬小猪；小猪翻不过木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”可是水不肯。

She went a little further, and she met some water. So she said: “Water, water! quench fire; fire won’t burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the water wouldn’t.

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一头公牛。于是她说：“公牛！公牛！喝水；水不肯灭火；火不肯烧木棍；木棍不肯打狗；狗不肯咬小猪；小猪翻不过木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”

She went a little further, and she met an ox. So she said: “Ox! ox! drink water; water won’t quench fire; fire won’t burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.”

可是公牛不肯。

But the ox wouldn’t.

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一个屠夫。于是她说：“屠夫！屠夫！

She went a little further, and she met a butcher. So she said: “Butcher! butcher!

杀公牛；公牛不肯喝水；水不肯灭火；火不肯烧木棍；木棍不肯打狗；狗不肯咬小猪；小猪翻不过木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”可是屠夫不肯。

kill ox; ox won’t drink water; water won’t quench fire; fire won’t burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.” But the butcher wouldn’t.

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一根绳子。于是她说：“绳子！绳子！

She went a little further, and she met a rope. So she said: “Rope! rope!

吊死屠夫；屠夫不肯杀公牛；公牛不肯喝水；水不肯灭火；火不肯烧木棍；木棍不肯打狗；狗不肯咬小猪；小猪翻不过木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”可是绳子不肯。

她往前走了一段路，遇见了一只老鼠。于是她说：“老鼠！老鼠！

She went a little further, and she met a rat. So she said: “Rat! rat!

咬绳子；绳子不肯吊死屠夫；屠夫不肯杀公牛；公牛不肯喝水；水不肯灭火；火不肯烧木棍；木棍不肯打狗；狗不肯咬小猪；小猪翻不过木阶；我今晚就回不了家了。”

gnaw rope; rope won’t hang butcher; butcher won’t kill ox; ox won’t drink water; water won’t quench fire; fire won’t burn stick; stick won’t beat dog; dog won’t bite pig; piggy won’t get over the stile; and I shan’t get home to-night.”
