Lily tiene siete años. Vive con mamá y su hermano Sam en un pueblo pequeño en Canadá. Sam tiene cuatro años. Es octubre, y hace frío. Las hojas son rojas y amarillas.

Lily is seven years old. She lives with Mum and her brother Sam in a small village in Canada. Sam is four. It is October, and it is cold. The leaves are red and yellow.

Hoy es sábado. Mamá, Lily y Sam van a la casa de Farmer Brown. Farmer Brown tiene un campo grande. El campo está arriba, en una montaña. La casa de mamá, Lily y Sam está abajo.

Today is Saturday. Mum, Lily and Sam walk to Farmer Brown’s. Farmer Brown has a big field. The field is up on a hill. Mum, Lily and Sam’s house is down below.

En el campo hay calabazas. ¡Muchas, muchas calabazas! Hay calabazas pequeñas y calabazas grandes. Hay calabazas naranjas, verdes y blancas.

There are pumpkins in the field. Lots and lots of pumpkins! There are small pumpkins and big pumpkins. There are orange, green and white pumpkins.

«Cogemos dos calabazas», dice mamá. «Una para Lily y una para Sam».

“We’re taking two pumpkins,” says Mum. “One for Lily and one for Sam.”

Sam encuentra una calabaza enseguida. Es muy pequeña, tan pequeña como una manzana. «¡Esta es mi calabaza!», dice Sam. «Es un bebé».

Sam finds a pumpkin right away. It is very small, as small as an apple. “This is my pumpkin!” says Sam. “It’s a baby.”

Lily busca mucho tiempo. Quiere una calabaza grande. Una calabaza muy, muy grande. Luego la ve. Es redonda y naranja y muy, muy grande. ¡Es tan grande como Sam!

Lily looks for a long time. She wants a big pumpkin. A very, very big pumpkin. Then she sees it. It is round and orange and very, very big. It is as big as Sam!

«¡Cojo esta!», grita Lily. Mamá se ríe. «Lily, es demasiado grande». «No, mamá. Puedo llevarla».

“I’ll take that one!” shouts Lily. Mum laughs. “Lily, that one is too big.” “No, Mum. I can carry it.”

Lily coge la calabaza en los brazos. Tira y tira. La calabaza se queda en el suelo.

Lily puts her arms around the pumpkin. She pulls and pulls. The pumpkin stays on the ground.

Ahora mamá lo intenta. Tira y tira. Su cara se pone roja. La calabaza se queda en el suelo. Sam se ríe. «¡Mamá está roja como una manzana!»

Now Mum tries. She pulls and pulls. Her face goes red. The pumpkin stays on the ground. Sam laughs. “Mum is as red as an apple!”

Farmer Brown viene con una carretilla. Se ríe. «La calabaza es muy pesada. ¡Es el rey de mi campo!» Farmer Brown y mamá levantan la calabaza juntos a la carretilla. «¡Arriba!»

Farmer Brown comes with a wheelbarrow. He laughs. “That pumpkin is very heavy. It’s the king of my field!” Farmer Brown and Mum lift the pumpkin into the wheelbarrow together. “Hup!”

«¡Yo empujo!», dice Lily. Mamá y Lily empujan la carretilla juntas. Sam lleva la calabaza bebé.

“I’ll push!” says Lily. Mum and Lily push the wheelbarrow together. Sam carries the baby pumpkin.
