호박이 너무 크다

Lily는 일곱 살이다. Lily는 캐나다의 작은 마을에서 엄마와 남동생 Sam과 산다. Sam은 네 살이다. 10월이고 날씨가 춥다. 나뭇잎은 붉은색과 노란색이다.

Lily is seven years old. She lives with Mum and her brother Sam in a small village in Canada. Sam is four. It is October, and it is cold. The leaves are red and yellow.

오늘은 토요일이다. 엄마와 Lily와 Sam은 Farmer Brown에게 간다. Farmer Brown은 큰 밭이 있다. 밭은 산 위에 있다. 엄마와 Lily와 Sam의 집은 아래에 있다.

Today is Saturday. Mum, Lily and Sam walk to Farmer Brown’s. Farmer Brown has a big field. The field is up on a hill. Mum, Lily and Sam’s house is down below.

밭에 호박들이 있다. 아주 많은 호박들이다! 작은 호박과 큰 호박이 있다. 주황색, 초록색, 흰색 호박이 있다.

There are pumpkins in the field. Lots and lots of pumpkins! There are small pumpkins and big pumpkins. There are orange, green and white pumpkins.

“호박 두 개를 고르자.” 엄마가 말한다. “하나는 Lily를 위한 것이고 하나는 Sam을 위한 것이야.”

“We’re taking two pumpkins,” says Mum. “One for Lily and one for Sam.”

Sam은 곧바로 호박 하나를 찾는다. 그것은 아주 작고 사과만큼 작다. “이건 내 호박이야!” Sam이 말한다. “아기 호박이야.”

Sam finds a pumpkin right away. It is very small, as small as an apple. “This is my pumpkin!” says Sam. “It’s a baby.”

Lily는 오래 찾는다. Lily는 큰 호박을 원한다. 아주아주 큰 호박이다. 그때 Lily는 호박을 본다. 호박은 둥글고 주황색이고 아주아주 크다. Sam만큼 크다!

Lily looks for a long time. She wants a big pumpkin. A very, very big pumpkin. Then she sees it. It is round and orange and very, very big. It is as big as Sam!

“난 이걸로 할래!” Lily가 외친다. 엄마가 웃는다. “Lily, 그건 너무 커.” “아니야, 엄마. 난 들 수 있어.”

“I’ll take that one!” shouts Lily. Mum laughs. “Lily, that one is too big.” “No, Mum. I can carry it.”

Lily는 호박을 품에 안는다. Lily는 당기고 또 당긴다. 호박은 바닥에 그대로 있다.

Lily puts her arms around the pumpkin. She pulls and pulls. The pumpkin stays on the ground.

이제 엄마가 해 본다. 엄마는 당기고 또 당긴다. 엄마 얼굴이 빨개진다. 호박은 바닥에 그대로 있다. Sam이 웃는다. “엄마가 사과처럼 빨개!”

Now Mum tries. She pulls and pulls. Her face goes red. The pumpkin stays on the ground. Sam laughs. “Mum is as red as an apple!”

Farmer Brown이 외바퀴 수레를 가지고 온다. Farmer Brown이 웃는다. “호박이 아주 무겁네. 내 밭의 왕이야!” Farmer Brown과 엄마가 함께 호박을 외바퀴 수레에 올린다. “영차!”

Farmer Brown comes with a wheelbarrow. He laughs. “That pumpkin is very heavy. It’s the king of my field!” Farmer Brown and Mum lift the pumpkin into the wheelbarrow together. “Hup!”

“내가 밀래!” Lily가 말한다. 엄마와 Lily가 함께 외바퀴 수레를 민다. Sam은 아기 호박을 들고 간다.

“I’ll push!” says Lily. Mum and Lily push the wheelbarrow together. Sam carries the baby pumpkin.
