Lily tem sete anos. Ela mora com a mãe e o irmão dela, Sam, em uma vila pequena no Canadá. Sam tem quatro anos. É outubro e está frio. As folhas são vermelhas e amarelas.
Lily is seven years old. She lives with Mum and her brother Sam in a small village in Canada. Sam is four. It is October, and it is cold. The leaves are red and yellow.
Hoje é sábado. A mãe, Lily e Sam vão até o Farmer Brown. O Farmer Brown tem uma plantação grande. A plantação fica no alto de um morro. A casa da mãe, da Lily e do Sam fica embaixo.
Today is Saturday. Mum, Lily and Sam walk to Farmer Brown’s. Farmer Brown has a big field. The field is up on a hill. Mum, Lily and Sam’s house is down below.
Na plantação tem abóboras. Muitas, muitas abóboras! Tem abóboras pequenas e abóboras grandes. Tem abóboras laranjas, verdes e brancas.
There are pumpkins in the field. Lots and lots of pumpkins! There are small pumpkins and big pumpkins. There are orange, green and white pumpkins.
“Nós vamos levar duas abóboras”, diz a mãe. “Uma para a Lily e uma para o Sam.”
“We’re taking two pumpkins,” says Mum. “One for Lily and one for Sam.”
Sam acha uma abóbora logo. Ela é muito pequena, tão pequena quanto uma maçã. “Essa é a minha abóbora!”, diz Sam. “Ela é um bebê.”
Sam finds a pumpkin right away. It is very small, as small as an apple. “This is my pumpkin!” says Sam. “It’s a baby.”
Lily procura por muito tempo. Ela quer uma abóbora grande. Uma abóbora muito, muito grande. Aí ela vê a abóbora. Ela é redonda, laranja e muito, muito grande. Ela é tão grande quanto o Sam!
Lily looks for a long time. She wants a big pumpkin. A very, very big pumpkin. Then she sees it. It is round and orange and very, very big. It is as big as Sam!
“Eu vou levar essa!”, grita Lily. A mãe ri. “Lily, ela é grande demais.” “Não, mãe. Eu posso carregar ela.”
“I’ll take that one!” shouts Lily. Mum laughs. “Lily, that one is too big.” “No, Mum. I can carry it.”
Lily pega a abóbora nos braços. Ela puxa e puxa. A abóbora fica no chão.
Lily puts her arms around the pumpkin. She pulls and pulls. The pumpkin stays on the ground.
Agora a mãe tenta. Ela puxa e puxa. O rosto dela fica vermelho. A abóbora fica no chão. Sam ri. “A mamãe está vermelha como uma maçã!”
Now Mum tries. She pulls and pulls. Her face goes red. The pumpkin stays on the ground. Sam laughs. “Mum is as red as an apple!”
O Farmer Brown vem com um carrinho de mão. Ele ri. “A abóbora é muito pesada. Ela é a rainha da minha plantação!” O Farmer Brown e a mãe levantam a abóbora juntos para dentro do carrinho de mão. “Opa!”
Farmer Brown comes with a wheelbarrow. He laughs. “That pumpkin is very heavy. It’s the king of my field!” Farmer Brown and Mum lift the pumpkin into the wheelbarrow together. “Hup!”
“Eu empurro!”, diz Lily. A mãe e Lily empurram o carrinho de mão juntas. Sam carrega a abóbora bebê.
“I’ll push!” says Lily. Mum and Lily push the wheelbarrow together. Sam carries the baby pumpkin.
