कद्दू बहुत बड़ा है

लिली सात साल की है। वह कनाडा के एक छोटे गाँव में माँ और अपने भाई सैम के साथ रहती है। सैम चार साल का है। अक्टूबर का महीना है, और ठंड है। पत्ते लाल और पीले हैं।

Lily is seven years old. She lives with Mum and her brother Sam in a small village in Canada. Sam is four. It is October, and it is cold. The leaves are red and yellow.

आज शनिवार है। माँ, लिली और सैम किसान ब्राउन के पास जाते हैं। किसान ब्राउन का एक बड़ा खेत है। खेत एक पहाड़ी के ऊपर है। माँ, लिली और सैम का घर नीचे है।

Today is Saturday. Mum, Lily and Sam walk to Farmer Brown’s. Farmer Brown has a big field. The field is up on a hill. Mum, Lily and Sam’s house is down below.

खेत में कद्दू हैं। बहुत सारे, बहुत सारे कद्दू! छोटे कद्दू हैं और बड़े कद्दू हैं। नारंगी, हरे और सफ़ेद कद्दू हैं।

There are pumpkins in the field. Lots and lots of pumpkins! There are small pumpkins and big pumpkins. There are orange, green and white pumpkins.

“हम दो कद्दू लेते हैं,” माँ कहती है। “एक लिली के लिए और एक सैम के लिए।”

“We’re taking two pumpkins,” says Mum. “One for Lily and one for Sam.”

सैम को तुरंत एक कद्दू मिल जाता है। यह बहुत छोटा है, एक सेब जितना छोटा। “यह मेरा कद्दू है!” सैम कहता है। “यह एक बच्चा है।”

Sam finds a pumpkin right away. It is very small, as small as an apple. “This is my pumpkin!” says Sam. “It’s a baby.”

लिली देर तक ढूँढती है। उसे एक बड़ा कद्दू चाहिए। एक बहुत, बहुत बड़ा कद्दू। फिर वह उसे देखती है। वह गोल और नारंगी और बहुत, बहुत बड़ा है। वह सैम जितना बड़ा है!

Lily looks for a long time. She wants a big pumpkin. A very, very big pumpkin. Then she sees it. It is round and orange and very, very big. It is as big as Sam!

“यह मैं लेती हूँ!” लिली चिल्लाती है। माँ हँसती है। “लिली, यह बहुत बड़ा है।” “नहीं, माँ। मैं इसे उठा सकती हूँ।”

“I’ll take that one!” shouts Lily. Mum laughs. “Lily, that one is too big.” “No, Mum. I can carry it.”

लिली कद्दू को अपनी बाहों में लेती है। वह खींचती है और खींचती है। कद्दू ज़मीन पर ही रहता है।

Lily puts her arms around the pumpkin. She pulls and pulls. The pumpkin stays on the ground.

अब माँ कोशिश करती है। वह खींचती है और खींचती है। उसका चेहरा लाल हो जाता है। कद्दू ज़मीन पर ही रहता है। सैम हँसता है। “माँ सेब की तरह लाल है!”

Now Mum tries. She pulls and pulls. Her face goes red. The pumpkin stays on the ground. Sam laughs. “Mum is as red as an apple!”

किसान ब्राउन एक हाथ-गाड़ी लेकर आता है। वह हँसता है। “कद्दू बहुत भारी है। यह मेरे खेत का राजा है!” किसान ब्राउन और माँ मिलकर कद्दू को हाथ-गाड़ी में उठाते हैं। “हइशा!”

Farmer Brown comes with a wheelbarrow. He laughs. “That pumpkin is very heavy. It’s the king of my field!” Farmer Brown and Mum lift the pumpkin into the wheelbarrow together. “Hup!”

“मैं धक्का देती हूँ!” लिली कहती है। माँ और लिली मिलकर हाथ-गाड़ी को धक्का देती हैं। सैम छोटे कद्दू को ले जाता है।

“I’ll push!” says Lily. Mum and Lily push the wheelbarrow together. Sam carries the baby pumpkin.
