Rahasia Sophie

Jumat

Friday

Jumat. Hari penjualan.

Friday. The day of the sale.

Pada pukul sembilan, Sophie sudah siap. Blazer putih, lipstik merah, map biru di bawah lengannya. Dia melihat dirinya di cermin tua Nonna di aula.

At nine o’clock, Sophie is ready. White blazer, red lipstick, the blue folder under her arm. She looks at herself in Nonna’s old mirror in the hall.

Sophie: Notaris menunggu pada pukul sebelas. Marco juga datang. Jangan terlambat, sayang.

Sophie: The notary is waiting at eleven. Marco is coming too. Don’t be late, darling.

“Lima surat, Sophie. Masih ada lima surat. Nonna menulis: Jangan jual sebelum surat terakhir.”

“Five letters, Sophie. There are still five letters. Nonna wrote: don’t sell before the last one.”

Sophie: Tom. Itu hanya surat-surat dari seorang wanita tua. Di sini ada uang dua setengah juta euro.

Sophie: Tom. They are letters from an old woman. This is two and a half million euros.

Dia menutup lipstiknya dengan bunyi klik kecil.

She closes her lipstick with a little click.

Aku membuat dua cangkir kopi dan mencari Elena. Dia duduk di lantai di kantor kecil Nonna, di antara kotak-kotak kardus.

I make two coffees and look for Elena. She is in Nonna’s little office, on the floor, between cardboard boxes.

Elena: Aku membereskan kantor ini. Untuk orang-orang Marco. Tamu-tamu terakhir pergi pada hari Minggu.

Elena: I’m packing the office. For Marco’s people. The last guests leave on Sunday.

“Elena, aku belum tanda tangan.”

“Elena, I haven’t signed yet.”

Elena: Tapi kamu akan tanda tangan. Pada pukul sebelas.

Elena: But you will. At eleven.

Dia mengambil kopinya. Dia tidak melihat ke arahku. Di atas kotak kardus paling atas, ada foto lama danau yang terbalik.

She takes the coffee. She doesn’t look at me. On the top box lies an old photo of the lake, face down.
