Polish to English
Translate a Polish book into English, and keep the Polish
Upload a Polish novel, from Sienkiewicz and Prus to a book of today with no English edition, and read it with English beside every paragraph: the Polish as the author wrote it, the English when a sentence gets away from you.
Petroniusz obudził się zaledwie koło południa i jak zwykle, zmęczony bardzo.
Petronius woke only towards noon and, as usual, very tired.
Poprzedniego dnia był na uczcie u Nerona, która przeciągnęła się do późna w noc.
The day before he had been at a feast at Nero's, which had dragged on late into the night.
How it works
Upload the book, choose English, and look at the free preview of the opening pages, side by side. If it reads well, translate the whole book and read it in the browser, or download it as a PDF, an EPUB, or a Kindle file. More about translating a book.
Where to find Polish books
Wolne Lektury has Polish classics, from Mickiewicz to Sienkiewicz and Prus, as free EPUBs. Your own DRM-free EPUB, a text-based PDF or a Word file all work.
Reading Polish with English beside it
Names that change their endings
Polish has seven cases, so names change shape: Neron is u Nerona at his feast and z Neronem in his company. The English keeps one form; the Polish beside it shows the endings that tell you who is doing what to whom.
Pan and pani
Polite Polish speaks to people in the third person, as pan or pani, and moving to ty is a step closer. English has only "you". With the Polish beside it you can see when two characters drop the formality.
