Romanian to English
Translate a Romanian book into English, and keep the Romanian
Upload a Romanian novel, a classic or a book that never found an English publisher, and read it with English beside every paragraph: Romanian as the author wrote it, English one glance away.
Era odată o capră care avea trei iezi.
Once upon a time there was a goat who had three kids.
Iedul cel mare și cu cel mijlociu dau prin băț de obraznici ce erau; iară cel mic era harnic și cuminte.
The eldest kid and the middle one were naughty past all bearing; but the little one was hard-working and good.
How it works
Upload the book, choose English, and look at the free preview of the opening pages, side by side. If it reads well, translate the whole book and read it in the browser, or download it as a PDF, an EPUB, or a Kindle file. More about translating a book.
Where to find Romanian books
Romanian Wikisource has Creangă, Eminescu, Caragiale and Slavici for free. Your own DRM-free EPUB, a text-based PDF or a Word file all work.
Reading Romanian with English beside it
The article at the end
Romanian puts "the" on the end of the word: capră is "a goat", capra is "the goat", iedul is "the kid". Side by side with English you see it happen in every line, until you stop noticing.
Creangă's Moldavia
Classic writers use regional and old words, like iară for iar or samănă for seamănă, that a modern dictionary may not list. The English beside them keeps you in the story instead of in the dictionary.
