Kızıl Saç ve Uzun Burun
Red Hair and a Long Nose
“Rudolf, when are you ever going to do anything?” said my brother’s wife.
“My dear Rose,” I answered, and I put down my egg spoon. “Why should I do anything? I have a comfortable life and nearly enough money, and nobody ever has quite enough. I’m the brother of Lord Burlesdon. It’s enough!”
“Yirmi dokuz yaşındasın,” dedi, “ve hiçbir şey yapmadın, sadece…”
“You are twenty-nine,” she said, “and you’ve done nothing but…”
“Gezdim ve eğlendim, öyle mi? Doğru. Bizim ailemizin bir şey yapmasına gerek yok.”
“Travel around and enjoy myself? That’s true. Our family doesn’t need to do things.”
This made Rose a little angry, because her family was less grand than the Rassendylls. But she was pretty and very rich, so my brother Robert did not mind.
“İyi aileler genellikle diğer ailelerden daha kötüdür,” dedi.
“Good families are usually worse than other families,” she said.
I touched my hair, because I knew exactly what she meant.
“I’m so glad Robert’s hair is black!” she cried.
O sırada Robert içeri girdi. Saat yedide kalkar ve kahvaltıdan önce çalışır. Karısının kıpkırmızı yüzünü gördü ve ona nazikçe dokundu.
At that moment Robert came in. He gets up at seven and works before breakfast. He saw his wife’s red face and touched it kindly.
“Ne oldu, canım?” diye sordu.
“What’s the matter, my dear?” he asked.
“She’s angry because I do nothing and I have red hair,” I said sadly.
“Tabii, saçı onun suçu değil,” dedi Rose.
“Oh, of course his hair isn’t his fault,” said Rose.
“Ailemizden biri her otuz yılda bir o saçı alır,” dedi ağabeyim. “Buruna da öyle. Rudolf’ta ikisi de var.”
“One of the family gets that hair every thirty years or so,” said my brother. “The nose too. Rudolf has both.”
