Lupul și cocorul

Un lup a mâncat prea lacom și un os i-a rămas de-a curmezișul în gât. Nu putea nici să-l scoată, nici să-l înghită și, bineînțeles, nu putea mânca absolut nimic. Firește că aceasta era o situație îngrozitoare pentru un lup lacom.

A Wolf had been feasting too greedily, and a bone had stuck crosswise in his throat. He could get it neither up nor down, and of course he could not eat a thing. Naturally that was an awful state of affairs for a greedy Wolf.

Așa că s-a grăbit să meargă la cocor. Era sigur că acesta, cu gâtul și ciocul lui lung, ar putea ajunge ușor la os și l-ar scoate afară.

So away he hurried to the Crane. He was sure that she, with her long neck and bill, would easily be able to reach the bone and pull it out.

„Te voi răsplăti foarte frumos”, a spus lupul, „dacă îmi scoți acel os afară.”

“I will reward you very handsomely,” said the Wolf, “if you pull that bone out for me.”

Cocorul, după cum vă puteți imagina, a fost foarte neliniștit să își bage capul în gâtul unui lup. Dar era lacom din fire, așa că a făcut ceea ce lupul i-a cerut să facă.

The Crane, as you can imagine, was very uneasy about putting her head in a Wolf’s throat. But she was grasping in nature, so she did what the Wolf asked her to do.

Când lupul a simțit că osul a dispărut, a început să plece.

When the Wolf felt that the bone was gone, he started to walk away.

„Dar cum rămâne cu răsplata mea?”, a strigat cocorul îngrijorat.

“But what about my reward!” called the Crane anxiously.

„Ce!”, a mârâit lupul, întorcându-se brusc. „Nu ai primit-o deja? Nu este de ajuns că te-am lăsat să-ți scoți capul din gura mea fără să ți-l retez?”

“What!” snarled the Wolf, whirling around. “Haven’t you got it? Isn’t it enough that I let you take your head out of my mouth without snapping it off?”

Nu aștepta nicio răsplată pentru că îi slujești pe cei răi.
